Lies a reason for my being - Lumpy, bumpy happiness Somehow finds its place When I move ahead. - ' 4 ' -- R ' ' . lAlL. Indeed. I thought I ' d never get here. And I thought I ' d never get out. Funny thing, it got better as it got older. You know, the whole school scene. Settling in. getting to know the professors, one by one, and becoming part of this whole . . . this whole great whole. w -; , Bright patches of fog shatter the twilight, The moon ' s breath drifts aimlessly, Giving life here and there. The toss of a glass and it appears. I appear. Not unwanted, or unwelcome . . . just unexpected Here, amongst my thoughts. Here, a very intimate and appropriate place. Somehow, I knew you would arrive. If I called long enough. If I asked others to call you too - I knew I would arrive. s I ' m here and I ' m me. Sure - I gvess my identity crisis will never be over, but here, I ' m winning the hardest battle. I ' m finding me in the rabble and rubbish of my thoughts: in the reflections of my friends: in the fertile environment of peace and acceptance. .C! L itwiriM Mij ' ' -- - S ' ' tIB M . , • ...• ' ' f ' r ' . .■■ • • In the moonlights twilight and stopping by, To jest with dreams by review, The steel walls ensconced me as if I were A sparrow, enshrined by grey velvet. Visions therein could have petrified - Turning loving, warm heart into stone. Fighting with vigor to face reality, I can ' t be all I want to be. I don ' t know what I want. Doctor, lawyer, Indian Chief, Singer, writer, monk. -■ ■• ' ' ' km The whole idea of Me. Why. Who. What. Where. When, and How. especially How. did not just happen. Now I never really was one for philosophising. But the concept of just taking it as it comes was not working. No gold stairway appeared out of nowhere with the sign. Climb to Your Destiny. I think it would have made my life a lot easier, but that doesn ' t happen like in the good old days. ■12 Homecoming M Ml E I— : - ■■•■: ..v - HomecominQ 13 w • ' , -w m • ' . ■, j A distinguished looking gentleman passed by my way one day, And asked me if I had a match To light his lonely way. And wondering if I ' d keep my par (If I had dared to keep my dream) As a sensible person, and nothing less To play a part within his scheme. Why are people the way they are And people the way I am? It was an odd incident of fata - Or was it divinely planned? To dream dreams upon a wheel Spinning mere threads of time; To give this gentleman a cloak of life Without my own entwined. ■Mk- Jb BH M I found that I am worthwhile, after all. And that I am not dispensible. Hurray for me! I ' m sure that the old adage, We ' re in this thing together. May safely be applied, without making my world a psychedelic yawn. - M.W. - fiiH !f 9 1 g ii gggl B ■pi i ■ F 1 i ' m Copeland MMK V.v staff: Susan Jennings, Louise Donahue, Sharon Pimm, Mary Ann Bobbitt, Debbie Coles, Hall Council: Sharon Might, Jody Mullen, Lourdes Couce, Lore Ohmstede, Amy Ralston, Mary Cornwell, Alisa Southers. 20 t }i — c .. c _- Dorm staff: Kevin Jenkins, Brandon Wise, Mary Ann Wise, Lindsey Wise, Jim Wise, Todd Honeycutt, Steve Ford, Tony Volkodav, Frank Fisch, Tyrone Matthews. ALL COLLEGE COUNCIL — The ACC is the equivalent of a Student Council, except the ACC works to involve all members of the college community. Composed of students, faculty, and staff, it is chaired by President Anderson with Sarah Jane Lindsay serving as Co-Chairman. Three major committees work under the ACC: the Academic Life Council, Student Life Council, and the Religious Life Council. Through these committees, the college is made a more democratic community for students, faculty, and staff. Karen Spence Great Scots 27 The Fighting Scots The M.C, Scots football team started out ttie season withi two new coaches Bobby Saylor, a former assistant coach at Hampden-Sydney, replaced Art Ogden as Athletic Director and head football coach. The other addition was Leslie Skip Sawyer Jr., a recent graduate of Hampden-Sydney He had been chosen by Saylor to coach the defensive line. He had also been chosen as head baseball coach. The Scots ended the season with a 2-6 record. The major problem with the team was that they were inexperienced There were 21 Freshmen, 16 Sophomores, 13 Juniors, and 2 Seniors, The football team tried hard and many of the points they lost were caused by careless errors Coach Saylor is working to regain the sports interest at t aryville College, The Fighting Scots: First Row - Trainer - Mary Stumpf, Trainer - Vanessa Rice, Bobby Saylor, Pat Dyer, Skip Sawyer, Pat Bollard, Manager - Ronnie Ramsey Second Row - Jeff Bonynge, Jeff Lee, Pot Foster, Robert Echols, Glenn Humphries, Manny Rodriguez, Pat Moyer, Mike Human, Bo Mulkey, Shannon j O ' Brien, David Clancy, Jeff Briggs, Tony Fox, Greg Driver Third Row - Jeff Seagle, Jack Griffin, Lindy Barile.
