MAY WE PRESENT . . . THE GREAT SCOT Some say you ' ll find him in Anderson tower, or perhaps burrowing under the streets on his way from Carnegie to Baldwin. Others claim he ' s in classrooms, the executive coun- cil, the chaplain ' s office. Still others claim to know him among the widespread alumni of Maryville College. He ' s the shyness of Mr. Layman, the orange and garnet tie of Dr. Copeland, the wry humor of Dean McClelland. When you want to define him, he ' s never around; when you despair, he might be there; when there ' s a festive, carefree mood abroad, he ' s always there. Everywhere, yet nowhere — that ' s the Great Scot. Enough. The Great Scot can ' t suddenly appear on this page. Look at that artist ' s conception of him — no spirit of a college could look like that! Or could he? Follow him through the past year; look for him. Above all, draw your own conclusions. Oh, yes — watch out for the Great Scot!
