THE DEANS FRAINK DELOSS McCLELLAND, B.A.. M.S., LL.D. In his capacity as Dean of Students, duties both ideasant and un- pleasant fall to Dr. McClelland. It is he who issues that gold-in- scribed roll each semester which is known as Dean ' s List and happy the hard-working student who finds his name thereon! Prob- ably the first person whom the incoming freshman meets is Dr. McClelland, for he handles all admissions. He is also the man who administers those crazy aptitude tests that ask whether you ' d rather be a cowboy or read to a sick friend, then come up with the conclusion that vou have high scientific interests. EDWIN RAY HUNTER, B.A., M.A., Ph.D.. Litt.D. In his years at Maryville. Dr. Hunter has made a very special place for himself on the campus, both in his acadenuc role and in the hearts of the people who have worked with him and learned from iiim. As head of the Engli.sh Department he attempts to inspire each and every little English major to write the great American novel. often, alas, without success. When he changes his field of operations and becomes Dean of Curriculum, he is faced with the mnumerable headaches which accompany the planning of course offerings and the making of schedules. There is always somebody who wants to take four classes which are all offered the same hour! FRANCES MASSEY, B.A. As Dean of Women. Miss Massey fills a difficult position. It is to her that the three women ' s dormitories look for their stop and go signals. In addition to keeping the dorms in working order and the girls happy, she serves on several student and faculty com- mittees which have helped immensely to improve the poor under- graduates ' lot. She also metes out those yearned-for special per- missions. Don ' t let this get around, but they ' re really not so awfully hard to get. More often than not she ' s really glad to say to a girl: Why. yes. you may go to that Perfectly Marvelous Movie in Knoxville with vour Wonderful Fella. Have a good time. i 1 r -1 1 f 4 i
