.t f-,,,, Sock hoppers hustle, bump as disco sounds resound As live bands priced them- selves out of the market, dis- cos became the favorite form of dances. Instead of the sounds of locals, students were able to dance to favorite records as the after game sock hops drew huge crowds into the gym. The Lunior class started the fad as t ey sponsored the first disco sock hop after the Glen- dale football game. Deanne johnson and Brian Cutting were crowned at the biggest dance of all: The Cir s' League Formal, Decem- ber 11. The formal carried the theme Feelings of Love, and featured a live band: Situa- tion, a local rock group.

Gags, games, music liven up lunch at MHS Whether it was the sale of candy, a tug of war or running in a shoe relay race, Maryvale students found a variety of activities going on during lunch breaks this year. Although most were spon- sored by student government to offer recreation to the stu- dents, many were sponsored by other clubs to raise money or other worthwhile purposes. One of the most popular activities was the pie throw sponsored by the Black Stu- dent Union. At this event, students could, for a price, fling pies at various function- aries around campus, mainly Mr. Kindall, and Mr. Shackle- ford. At other times, rock bands and the Maryvale musicians played concerts. These were quite well-received.
