Burnett began his career in secondary edu- cation by teaching school in Texas. Since then he has earned various degrees from universities includ- ing Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Arizona. At the outbreak of World War Il, Mr. Burnett taught air force navi- gation and was involved with the pilot training program. ln 1944 he 3 ,fi 'I6 ----usB- came to Phoenix where he Worked with the Office of Price Administra- tion. Later he joined the Phoenix Union High School System as head of the academic division of the Phoenix Technical School. Mr. Burnett has been the lodestar in the initiation of two high schools in the district. At Camelback's or- ganization he was assistant princi- pal, and he has been 1VIHS's princi- pal since its beginning. fe Music instructor, Mr. Harris, converses with Mr. Burnett about an upcoming orchestra concert. The job of an administrator is filled with many tedious tasks. Many ot which can only be ac- complished by long hours ot work at a desk. Mr. Burnett completes one ot these jobs by filling out a report.

Mar vale Welcomes New Administrators ELZIE MYERS MRS. IANE HAMLIN BERNARD MAGNUSSON Assistant Principal Administrative Assistant Administrative Assistant MHS exceeded its capacity this year with approximately 3,400 stu- dents. All of those individuals had to be scheduled into classes and this task belonged to Assistant Prin- cipal, Elzie Myers. Mr. Myers, for- merly an administrator at Carl Hayden High, has been with MHS since its opening. For nine years prior to her posi- tion as Administrative Assistant at MHS, Mrs. lane Hamlin was a hu- man relations educator at Phoenix Union High School. Mrs. Hamlin, who sponsors Girls' league Cabinet and Student Executive Committee along with Mr. Snodgrass finds her job at MHS very gratifying. Native Arizonian, Mr. Bernard Magnusson, MHS's new Adminis- trative Assistant, supervises all ac- tivities on campus. Mr. Magnusson who is a graduate of Mesa High was active in sports throughout his school years and was awarded the honor of All-American in college. Deciding district policies, hiring new faculty and administrators and the building of new schools are but a few of the many jobs required of the Phoenix Union High School Board. The Board which is com- posed of five unpaid members and the District Superintendent meet bi- weekly to solve the many dilemmas faced by the system and create bet- ter methods of executing the set policies.
