Not Pictured: jenny Cowger, Karri jones, Renee Warner, and Sally Thomas. F.T.A., Future Teachers of America, sets a format for students who are interested in teaching as a profession. F.T.A. members attended a Michigan Education Association conference at Central Michigan University in early fall. Members assisted at parent-teacher conferences and sponsored a Valentine’s party for the students of the Woodland School. The annual Spring Tea was served for the Marysville district teachers. There were two cadet teachers this year: Deb Lee and LouAnn Vansach. Deb Lee assisted Miss Fedraw in the science department. LouAnn Vansach assisted Mrs. Burns in the physical education department. Both said that besides learning, cadet teaching was fun. 26

Debate: The Art of Thinking Debate Team — Standing: Keith Miller, Gary Hinkley, Dick Bitzinger. Sitting: Dan Hyslop, Schlinkert, Miss Butler, Advisor; Richard Valarie Aldridge, Holly Miller, Sally Thomas. The Marysville Debate Team competed against eleven other schools to obtain 8th place for the 1972-73 year. This year’s record was 8 wins, 12 losses. The topic was “Resolved that the federal government should finance public schools.” Our debate team sponsored a meet this year, with over one hundred students attending. The team also served dinner to the visiting guests between matches. This year’s top speakers were Gary Schlinkert, who won Top Speaker Award for MHS, and Dan Hyslop who won Top Novice Speaker. Viking Forensics Group is Organized This year’s Forensics Team consists of eight members with ten categories which are Keith Miller, Boys’ Extemporaneous; Sandy Miller, Girls’ Oration; Don Smith, Serious Interpretation; Dan Hyslop, Interpretative Story telling; Chuck Shagena, Radio NewsjLorraine Butler, Humorous Interpretation.
