MISSAHARASKRESIN COUNSELOR 1933-1972 She ' s only just begun to search into a new world of her own. Miss Kresin started teaching in the fall of 1933 in the old Marysville High School building. Some of her first classes were English, History and Physical Education. Since we have been in this building, Miss Kresin taught Junior and Senior English until she started counseling part time in 1955. Now, Miss Kresin is an advisor of the National Honor Society and helps co-ordinate Senior activities, besides being a full-time counselor. As years go on, so does the song: A kiss for luck and we ' re on our way. And, yes, we ' ve just begun. 5 TABLE OF CONTENTS Administration 7 Faculty 13 Activities 27 Sports 63 Freshmen 91 Sophomores 101 Juniors 1 1 1 Seniors 1 20 Senior Directory 154 Index 156 Ads 1 59 6 Mr. Louis Schmorrow, Trustee; Mr. Robert Teeple, Trustee; Mr. Charles Richards, Trustee. The Board of Education for the Marysville School District has done many things to uphold the status and to maintain the operation of the schools in our district. The building additions which were nearing completion in 1969 were put into use in September of this year. This program provided for more room for the elementary and intermediate schools. This was the first year that one-semester courses were implemented at MHS. The faculty devised a plan whereby the students of MHS enrolled at the beginning of each semester for their classes. One credit is given per class hour for each semester. Many different classes were offered this year than had ever been before at MHS. This plan proved to be very successful because it offers the student much more freedom to take classes he wants. As always, the Board of Education had the interests of the students foremost in their minds as they attempted to improve the quality of education. Leaders in the Field of Education MR. D. F. Miss Kresin has been an advisor of the Marysville Chapter of the National Honor Society since the first meeting held May 29, 1938. Her memories of that first meeting have clouded over during her thirty-four years of service, but she can remember years that the Society was more active. Her assistance has been appreciated by all in the organization. Mrs. Gorham was initiated into the Marysville High School Chapter as a sophomore in 1947. Then, in 1966, she was appointed co-advisor of that same chapter. The 1972-3 chapter will consist of sixteen members when it begins its assemblage next year. SUPER-SOUL SPIRIT During basketball season, the Viking Wall helped to charge up the team to the S.C.A.L. championship. This was a great year for Pep Club. Members really showed their super-soul spirit by painting posters for the team on Monday nights and by doing some of the skits at pep rallies. The skits performed by members of the club were Raisins and Viking Man. The spirit jug was awarded to the class showing the most enthusiasm, with the freshmen winning the jug most times. The club cheered both our football and basketball teams on to the No. 1 position. 55 Vocational Program Develops Fixing faucets is only a small part of Jerry LaMarsh ' s and Gary Babel ' s training in Building and Grounds Maintenance. Marysville students participate in eight of the Vocational classes. Three of the classes are held in Marysville. Mr. Den Uyl teaches Machine Trades; Mr. Boden, Welding; and Mr. Elsholz, Drafting. The other classes are Quantity Foods at Algonac; Auto Mechanics at St. Clair; Carpentry, Practical and Applied Clerical Training, Building and Grounds Maintenance at Nike Base; and Cosmetology in Port Huron. Miss Marg instructs Connie Baker, Pam Wright, Cheryl Gentner, and Beth Knox in Cosmetology. Dan Carolan, Greg Bugg, Mike Doan, Mike Westbrook, and Doug McIntosh all take Welding from Mr. Boden. v- u Tom Churchill and Denny Putze help prepare a house frame in Carpentry. Mechanical Skills Dave Wilson marks off a 2 x 4 for a project in Carpentry. Mr. Den Uyl ' s Machine Trades Class learns the finer points about the drill press. Practical and Applied Clerical Training (P.A.C.T.) is a new, worthwhile program that Deb — Lucas, Terry | Lindsay, and Diane Greuber like. Pam and Connie practice their shampooing techniques on Cheryl and Beth. Stan Mieksztyn, Mike DeLine, and Don Dimick enjoy their Drafting class taught by Mr. Elsholz. Vj Larry Giles and Randy Wheeler work on an addition for Mr. Wiltse ' s house. 57 Varsity Soccer • Back Row: Anita Hinkley, Amy Butler, Sandy Miller, Melanie French. That ' s the chant echoing in the halls of Marysville High School. The Vikings broke records and went undefeated to a 9-0 season. This is the first time in the history of Marysville that the Vikings won 9 games in a row. In addition to this record, we retired our third SCAL Trophy. We owe a lot to Coach Braun, head coach, and to Coach Houck and Coach McDevitt, assistant coaches. More importantly, we owe a great deal to the team who were just tremendous and of whom we are really proud. The highest points scored against Marysville occurred when Algonac earned a hard fought-for 7 points. The total amount of points scored against us was 37 pts., compared with the 251 pts. we scored against our opponents. At the Fall Team Sports Banquet, Terry French, president of the Rotary Club, presented to Coach Braun the Walt Braun Iron Man ' s Club plaque. On this plaque appear all the names of the men who are members of the club. The students of Marysville High are very proud of the Marysville Vikings, SCAL Champions of the 1971 season. CANT Be Number 2! became the crowd ' s chant after the heartbreaker opener to Chippewa Valley. As the season progressed, so did the Vikings as they continually pressed Valley ' s slim SCAL lead. Finally, thanks to an Algonac upset over Valley, the Vikings had their long-awaited showdown for the title. The human wall, cheering fans and sign-plastered gym will never be forgotten because they were only the beginning of a thrilling game that the charged-up Vikes won 68-65. Winning the District wasn ' t easy because Cros-Lex and Marine City were out for revenge, but the mighty Vikings again carried through the winning tradition of MHS and brought home another trophy. Five full student buses traveled to Ferndale but the Vikings couldn ' t put it together as they dropped the Regional opener to East Catholic 60-55, but the Vikings will always be No. 1 to the student body.
