2'-venue Our Well- Traveled Girls f R Carolyn Gragowski Last summer for eight weeks Carolyn Gragowski, a senior, represented Marysville High School in Finland. She stayed with JVIr. and Mrs. Salo and her Finnish sister Leena. She also had a married brother Timo and a married sister Virpi. Carolyn lived in a modern home on the outskirts of Pori, which is the fourth largest city in Finland. The biggest problem Carolyn encountered was the language barrier. Her Finnish parents and brother could not speak English, thoughfortunately her sisters could. Carolyn spent part of her visit touring the lower part of Finland. When she and her sister weren't traveling, they passed the time going to dances, walking, and shopping in Pori. Carolyn enjoyed her summer there immensely, and she understood the Finnish people better. This year Marysville High was fortunate to have Barbara Sproll as an exchange student. Barb 's American parents were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hoag, and her sister was senior Diary Hoag. Barb is from Thun, Switzerland, which she described as an average Swiss town with old-fashioned homes and an old castle. She has three brothers and two sisters in Switzerland, all older than she is. The biggest surprises in Marysville were the big cars, the flat land, and the amount of meat served at meals. She also found that the teen-agers weren't as wild as she had expected. Barb has two years of secondary schooling yet because her year in Marysville doesn't count. Barb said that she was very glad for the opportunity to live here because everyone in Marysville was so friendly. Barbara Sproll
