UNDERCLASSMEN The main strength of any Viking ship is its oars- men, and so the underclassmen are the main strength of MHS. The oarsman’s life is a mixture of work and play. The oar often pulls hard, the seas are some- times rough, but with undaunted determination the oarsman toils on, secure in the knowledge that his efforts shall be rewarded in a fuller, richer life. 5

Hands Across The Sea Elsa Sorenson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Einar Soren- son, hails to us from Odense, Denmark. She has one brother, Erik, 34. She is spending her year in America with Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Carrier and Linda, senior ’66, her American Sister. Elsa’s future plans include two years of Junior College and four years of Journalistic Training. Elsa had this to say about America: “America is the best place on earth for Americans, and you have almost made me one.” Geertruida (Truus) Brouwer, from Amsterdam, Holland, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willem Brouwer. She has one brother, Wim, 22, and one sister Mieke, 6. Her Ameri- can parents are Mr. and Mrs. Norbert L. Gragowski and her American sisters are Janet and Carolyn. Truus’s future plans include a study of medicine for which she will go to the University of Amsterdam. The comment that Truus leaves us is: “I’m glad I had the opportunity to come to the States. I really feel at home here and I hope that Marysville High will have exchange students next year because living in another country is the best way to understand the people of that country.” 4
