Lena Stadell is the daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs, Anders Stadell. She has one brother, Per, who is fourteen years old. Their home is in Avesta, Sweden.. Lena's American parents are Mr. and Mrs. Melton J. Lenk. Sandy Lenk, senior '65, is her American sister. Lena's future plans in- clude two more years of high school in Sweden and attend- ance at a university in Stock- holm. She will study to be- come a social-curator. The comment Lena gave is, My year in Marysville has been a wonderful experi- ence, and all of you have really given me a good im- pression of the American people. I wish more teen- agers could be given the op- portunity to be exchange stu- dents because I believe it is a very good way to create understanding between countries. ' ' Maija Linna, from Tam- pere, Finland, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kyosti Linna. She has three sisters and two brothers, Harri is Maija's twin brother. Maija is now living with Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Darby. Her American sister is Linda Darby, class of '65, When she returns to Fin- land, Maija will complete two more years of high school. Then she will attend either the university in Helsinki or a college in Tampere. She would like to become a gym teacher. Maija's comment to the students is, I can never tell how glad I am that Icould come here to Marysville. I have had a wonderful year, and I have learned very much about American people. I hope, as does Lena, that more teen- agers can go to other coun- tries, because it is the best way to understand differences between people. By reason of arduous, self-disciplined labor, coupled with a driving determination to excel, one learns the invaluable lesson of what it takes to be a success. The Senior Class presented the three-act comedy Onions in the Stew by Betty MacDonald on November 20, 1964. The play was well attended and the audience responded very favorably to the acting talents ofthe cast members. The directing and casting of the play was capably handled by Miss Mary TenPas, language and speech teacher, The many committees, required to pro- duce an outstanding play, did an excellent job. The play depicted the humorous hazards of life on a desolate island. The Vikings this year were full of spirit and fight and they gave their all in every game. Although Marysville could not seem to move the ball, they showed the deeper, more lasting and important benefits from sports - fair play and good sportsmanship. The Vikings played clean, hard-nosed football and rarely displayed rough or unfair play. We can be proud of our boys - they are still our champs! It's ours! Debate is more than a haphazard argument, as the members of our debate team can tell you. Participation in debate requires reading, organizing, thinking, and speaking by both the af- firmative team, arguing in favor of the proposition, and the negative team, arguing against the proposition. The proposition for this year was Re- solved that nuclear weapons should be controlled by an international organiza- tion. In competition in the Blue Water Forensic League, the M.H.S. debate team finished in second place and has a trophy to show for their fine ll-5 record. They also participated in tour- naments, debating some of the best high school debate teams in the state. Participation in debate is a lot of work, it is sometimes disappointing, often rewarding and satisfying, but always a learning experience for those students taking part. The Juniors worked hard to make this dance the huge success that it was. Work on the decorations began in Decemberg and on Thursday, the day before, the Juniors worked hard and long to set things up. Football games we lost and won. MacDonald's Drive-in was do or die. Yes, they're all a part of Marysville High. Meeting in the hall between each class, Walking home after school --- All the exams we didn't pass, And that teacher we could never fool. High School plays and Senior Government Day, Filled with laughter in every way.
