Other activities of the class included the presentation of the Christ- mas assembly, a dramatic assembly, and participation in the forensic contests held in the spring by the Blue Water Forensics Association. 54 Science CluS Standing: Rick McLellan, Sharyn Kern, Fred Tomalo, Barb Butler, A1 Jones, Ken Bagnall, A1 Kilboume, Eugene Steller, Bob Hammar, Pat Frazer, Mr. Stephens, advisor. Our boys were knocking at the door for their second touchdown when the gun sounded missing it by only one yard. Except for this one let down the boys played an excellent brand of football this year. The Vikings Harriers, under the direction of Coach Collard, had a n extremely poor season as they failed to win in seven dual meets. The season was not with- out its successes and individual glory, as senioi runner Dave Dobson lowered the school and course records during the year. Dave covered the two-mile course in 10:15 at the Albion Invitational meet, thereby bettering the school mark by eighteen seconds. In a dual meet with Davison High, he set the Marysville Park course record at 10:23. Speedster Dobson qual- ified for the state finals by placing 3rd in the re- gional at Farmington. The State Finals at Ypsilanti found Dave crossing the finish line in 8th place. Several of the junior runners (Stroh, Hills, Spencer, Bonnett, Stevenson) show promise of developing into fine runners for the season ahead. The 1961 Viking Baseball Squad, under the guidance of Coach George Pake, won the S.C.A.L. Championship. This, coupled with the track championship gave us a clean sweep of all major sports in the S.C.A.L. The baseball team compiled an outstanding record of 10 wins, without suffering a single defeat. The pitching was ade- quately handled by Bob Keefe and Larry Emery. Bob and Larry both finished the season with E.R.A. ' s less than 2.00. Harry Roehl and Ken Mallwitz contributed some lusty hitting to the championship effort, hitting around .400 for the season. The prospects for the 1962 season appear good. Returning lettermen are Ed McGraw, Dick Jackson, Dave Westbrook, Larry Emery, Ken Mallwitz, Bill Loxton, and Harry Roehl. Several fine young players up from Coach Collard’s J.V. Squad should bolster the team. They are Jim Loxton, Dave Lohr, Gary Jackson, Dion Horn, Greg White, Lewis Ruddock, Wayne Steinhaus, Lonnie Baker, Jeff Kook. S°lf Reserve tennis Baseball Caw Harris.
