Hanks, Superintendent; Joseph R. Foley, Presi- dent; William A. Johnson, Treasurer; Clarence E. Heeke, Trustee. This has been a busy year for members of the Board of Education. In addition to the usual routine duties, many other projects have been undertaken. Plans for landscaping the new unit of the high school were made and the work begun, to be completed during the proper planting season. Development of the high school athletic field was continued with the completion planned for next summer. Plans for development of the Morton School playground area were approved and the work was begun during the fall. In co-operation with the employee s , teaching and non- teaching, work on a new code is continuing , which will define more clearly policies re- lating to employment, training, compensation, tenure, sick leave, and retirement. The Board worked with a Citizens ' Advisory Committee surveying the needs of the district for additional classrooms to provide facilities for the instruc tion of the inc r easing number of elementary schoolchild- ren. It is planned to bring recommendations of the Committee and the Board before the citizens of the community during this school year. It has been a busy year for Board members but a year challenging in its opportunities to serve the school and community. 6 SENIOR TOTS 8 Edward Bearden Chorus 10,11; Ambition: Army. Ambition: Work. The senior class of 1954, like other classes in the past, started off the year by sponsoring the annual homecoming. A queen was chosen by the students, and the game and dance were held in her honor. The next important activity was the all-school Christmas Party on December 23, 1953. The Black Cross was instru- mental in receiving donations for the Senior Relief Fund. The Christmas Sing, which is sponsored by the school council every year, had its highlight when the senior class sang M I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day. A small act was put on that showed Mary and the Lord Jesus, an Angel, and three Wise Men. Some of our talent will be shown off May 5 when we have our Senior Spotlight. The Senior Prom, which is being held in the new gym, is May 14. The seniors will be entertained when their unde rc las smates, the juniors, spon- sor the Junior -Senior Banquet on May 22. Remember, juniors, we went through the same thing last year! The Senior Assembly which features the will and prophecy will be presented May 25. This leaves us very little time to prepare for our trip to Mackinaw Is- land, for we leave on May 3G and returnon June 2. After we return we are ready for the biggest events of all-Baccalaureate and Commencement. Baccalaureate will be held on June 6, and Commencement, June 10. Then, leaving behind us all the happy and sorrowful times we have had, we shall face the future. We wish to thank our senior advisors, Mr . Gundry, Miss Mullen, Mr. Connolly and Mr. Burghdorf for all the help they have given us in the past school year. 22 The annual homecoming is sponsored every year by the senior class. As a result of this year ' s homecoming an alumni club was started. The Vikings topped off the homecoming game on October 10 by beat- ing Saint Stephens, 13-0. Rain didn ' t discourage the players before the game, but only seemed to encourage them. A dance was held in the junior high gym honoring the queen and her court. A party for the newly- organized Alumni Club was held in the recreation room. Coffee and donuts were served by the seniors. 24 FlCllLH Arnold Embree, M.A. Guidance Coordinator. The juniors were successful in their spring magazine sale. As a climax to these events , the faithful juniors will stand up for the seniors at Baccalaureate and Commence- ment. The sophomore class started making money for their senior trip this year by selling pencils which had football and basketball schedules on them. Another source of revenue was stationery. Orders were taken at the first of the school year and the stationery arrived at Christmas -time. There was more stationery sold by this sophomore class than any other at Marysville High School in the past. Two class parties were held in the recreation room and one skating party at Lakeport. All three were big successes and everyone enjoyed himself. The biggest expense this yeai was for class rings which were delivered in March. The rings were ordered from the Terryberry Company. This sophomore class of 152 students was the largest class at Marysville this year; thus the advisors, Mr. DelVero, Miss Vivian, Mr. Sims, Mr. McCalmon, and Mr. Yon have had a big responsibility. 40 The freshmen began their calendar of events with a roller skating par ty on November 23. They invited the eighth grade to go with them. Later on , part of the ninth grade presented an all-school assembly during National Education Week. The ninth grade also participated in the Christmas Sing for the Junior High. There was an all-school party sponsored by the ninth grade in April. Future activities will be planned during the remainder of the year. The class advisors for the ninth grade are Mrs. Bellow, Miss Chalmers, andMr. Jorm Simpson. The class of last year increased by nineteen to swell its membership this year to seventy-two. Some of the eighth graders started planning and thinking of their last year in junior high early in the semester, and most of them feel they are better citizens and tak- ing school more seriously than they did last year. The eighth graders initiated the swimming pool par- ty idea a nd had a grand time in the pool, and eating and dancing in the recreation room after the swim. A skat- ing party on the Marysville rink was not as well at- tended as the pool p arty, but it was fun. Class advisor s for the eighth grade are Mrs. Erickson andMr. Steph- ens. This year s seventh grade class came into Marys- ville Junior High as strong and eager boys and girls. Election of representatives to the student council was the first business. Those chosen were Alger Sedlak, Ellen Meiselbach, Carl Benner, and Jeanette Culip. The seventh grade was then split into three sections and two additional council representatives were add- ed; namely, John Hooper and Betty Moore. Individual homerooms held hayride parties during October, and Christmas parties withpresents and re- freshments . Plans are being made for an ice-skating party in February and a dance in March. The class advisors are Mrs. Blackney, Mrs . Smith, and Mrs. Moelter. 41 Row 1: Theresa Balinski. Row 2: James Barr, Ann Beaudry. Row 3: Tom Bleau, William Brown, Deanna Buch.
