DEAN OF :MARY YASHIXGT0X COLLEGE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA The responsibility for the smooth functioning of the school ' s academic life rests in a large part with Dr. Edward Alvey, Jr., Dean of Mary Washington College. Although much of his daily routine is devoted to administrative duties, Dean Alvey still finds time to aid students in solving scholastic problems and to contribute to the activities of the Education Department. SIMPSON CHANCELLOR OF L I{Y WASIIIXCTOX COLLEGE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF VIIJCINIA Dr. Simpson ' s aildrvss this year al the Chancellor ' s Convocation once again welcoineil us back to school and challenged us to find ourselves. The Search for Identity jjointed out to returning and incoming students alike the possibilities of a college education in aiding the student ' s sincere and earnest search for her true identity. Specifically Dr. Simpson urged that the student take advantage of academic opportunity for intellectual growth as an indirect but essential aid to her search. Growing, maturing, striving students at Mary Washington are thankful for the ideals and challenges set before them not only in Dr. Simpson ' s address which highlights the beginning of each year, but also in his own person and in his advocacy of a democratic attitude toward education in which the search for truth is a joint enter])rise between students and their instructors.
