so SAYS THE POET Only the author can wholly appreciate His or her own works. For he or she alone can perceive and understand The full and true meaning that behind the words lurks. — Lisa Foley City Lights I gazed out the pane in the dining room on a clear night at summer ' s sad close. And I saw a million lights. They sparkled and shined like a factory where stars are fashioned before they ' re blasted into the sky; Like innumerable gems of a pirate ' s treasure strewn carelessly on the beach the night cities lie. Miles away, yet only blocks, says the eye. City people, hiding from night, feeling secure, protected under the neon ' s mechanical glow Some of the lamps are moving. They bedeck cruise ships and fishing boats off the coast in L.A. harbor at San Pedro; But countless more cities that I cannot name wink at me from far up beyond the stretch of Cabrillo. City lights in September — A sight to remember! — Lisa Foley Medical death occurs after the heart has stopped beating. Real death occurs after the heart has stopped loving . . . Man can live for twenty-five days without food; ten days without water; twenty minutes without air; but not for one second without hope . . . Death is living without hope and love. — Jeff March in dull debate Isn ' t it strange that blunt speech can mean straight-to-the point in conversational life. Whereas there ' s simply no point at all to the bluntness of a knife? — Lisa Foley 11 |i !! !! !! !! u II II II II ■! One Summer ' s Eve I saw you there one summer ' s eve alone with your own thoughts, you stood so near and yet so far for me to share mv dreams with thee. You tried so hard to love me still and say you ' d never leave, but I saw your pain and felt you need to live and yet be free To keep you now would be a sin so your love I said I ' d never need, but vou my friend I can ' t deceive for you ' re all I have and all I ' ll ever be. — Nancy Estrada no ttt ( ( HC . . . ut n c t ttat I finally found someone Someone 1 could care for Someone to share my love But now you ' re gone Someone to talk with Someone to walk with But now you ' re gone Someone to hear my dreams Someone to be here for me But now you ' re gone. Someone to share the glory Someone to share the pain But now you ' re gone. Gone but not forgotten You ' ve left your mark Now I cry in the dark Your love is like a circle It begins but never ends I hope my broken heart mends. If I don ' t see your smile I wonder all the while I wonder how I still live on I have no real ambition I won ' t get very far Because now there ' s no star To light up my darkened road. Can my broken heart be sewed? Is a question I ask For it would be a difficult task Push your way on Leave me here to bleed Go on with your own creed Just hold yourself together And do what ' s for the better I ' ll stay here and try to mind my heart that seems to have fallen apart Now I ' ve realized my fate And you say it ' s too late It went too fast No wonder it didn ' t last If I had a second chance In your life I would dance But gradually, slow. Theron M 156 Creativity Section Something has come between us. It ' s formed a space within. 1 look at you and look away. Something is making me so afraid. Afraid that I will lose you. But there is nothing for me to do. This space is one of silence. And silence alone can kill. A broken heart is what I fear, I don ' t wish to cry that lonesome tear. This thing that ' s come between us. It makes me so unsure. This thing that ' s come between us, is her. — JLT YOU You opened your heart and You, through our problem , You taught me to care Taught me to cope You were special in ways To go on believing and not — 1 like things that are rare C;ive up hope You taught me of love and You taught me to laugh The games people play: As well as to cry — The ones that can hurt and You taught mv to hurt Drive love away. l-rom the times that you ' d lie You taught me to be able to You taught me to love and Look deep inside. Be able to feel To find what was true; To seperate what was false To stand sure, not to hide From what was real You taught me to look at You taught me that love Life a new way. Is not all fun and games To take things as they come. Because part of experiencing love To live life day by day. ' Is experiencing pain. — Jocelyn Batad 1
