For he or she alone can perceive and understand The full and true meaning that behind the words lurks. — Lisa Foley City Lights I gazed out the pane in the dining room on a clear night at summer ' s sad close. And I saw a million lights. They sparkled and shined like a factory where stars are fashioned before they ' re blasted into the sky; Like innumerable gems of a pirate ' s treasure strewn carelessly on the beach the night cities lie. Miles away, yet only blocks, says the eye. City people, hiding from night, feeling secure, protected under the neon ' s mechanical glow Some of the lamps are moving. They bedeck cruise ships and fishing boats off the coast in L.A. harbor at San Pedro; But countless more cities that I cannot name wink at me from far up beyond the stretch of Cabrillo. City lights in September — A sight to remember! — Lisa Foley Medical death occurs after the heart has stopped beating. Real death occurs after the heart has stopped loving . . . Man can live for twenty-five days without food; ten days without water; twenty minutes without air; but not for one second without hope . . .
