Freshmen What is a Freshman — Freshman (fresh-man) N. 1. A stu- dent in the first year of high school or college. 2. A begin- ner. But according to some freshmen students a freshman means: Just starting out and wanting some of the action. People who range from the age of 14 and 15; a ninth-grader who is always getting picked on by the upperclassmen. The upperclassmen seem to have a dif- ferent view. Some thought of them as being very im- mature, squirelly and a bit naive. Here are a few more up- perclassmen ' s views: A step lower than being a sophomore, two steps less than a junior and terribly far from being a senior. At times, people too. Always picked on for being the youngest. A lost soul in a new world of pep rallies, games, dances and a great deal of homework. In keeping with tradition, FRESHMEN PICK UP CHAIRS. 1-3. Freshmen occupy their leisure time during break and lunch by making new ac- quaintances. Old time elementary school rivals often become the best of friends. 4. After playing to his potential, Joe Brugiglio takes a breather. 36
