GLEE CLUB AND ENSEMBLE The members of the Girls Glee Club, which meets the second period in the morning on Monday and Wednesday, decided to enter the District Contest which was held in Bellaire on March 28. This was a new experience, since no Girls Glee Club from Martins Ferry High School had ever entered a contest. Their efforts were so successful at Bellaire that these girls were eligible to sing at the State Contest in Columbus, March 24th. Since Martins Ferry is a Class A school the students representing Martins Ferry in music contest cannot compete with schools having an enrollment of less than one thousand. At Columbus, the chorus competed with city schools and received a rating of ll, or Excellent. The school can feel proud of any glee club which represents the school so splendidly in their first music contest. Members singing in the contest are as follows: Emily Anderson, Irene Baker, Patricia Barton, Vera Beck, Erma Benning, Josephine Chickerella, Lillian Clark, Hay Dobbins, Luella Edington, Betty .lane Evans, Kathleen Goodhart, Henrietta Neiniger, Nancy Hipkins, Allie Hudspeth, Sally Joseph, June Hellner, Lois King, Eileen Lengacher, Lois Lipphardt, Marion Lysinger, Eris McCann, Ellen Mitchell, Anna Orend, Katherine Perry, Mary Lou Rutter, Helen Schuback, Georganne Sisley, Dolores Slack, Patty Sommers, Thelma Sterling, Pauline Stein, Dorothy Stubock, Elsie Throngate, Betty Tucker, Hannah Wilkins. The Girls Ensemble, composed of nine members, represented Martins Ferry High in the Ensemble Contest, held at New Concord, April ll. Having received a Superior rating in the District Contest, they will make the trip to Columbus to sing in the State Contest, May 8th. This is he third year that a Girls Ensemble has been entered in the contest, and likewise the third time the girls have merited a trip to the State event. The results of this contest cannot be given, due to the fact that the year book goes to press before the 8th ot May. Members of the Ensemble are: lrene Baker, Marion Lysinger, Betty .lane Evans - sopranos. Lois Lipphardt, Georganne Sisley, Henretta Heiniger - second sopranos. Anna Orend, Betty Tucker, Elsie Thorngate - altos. Miss Patricia Barton was the accompanist for both contest groups, and Miss Ruth Bailey was director.
