STAGECRAFT AND DRAMA Make The Scene Students involved in Stagecraft, assisted by Mr. Noel Con- nall, devoted many unstructured mods arranging stage- sets and equipment for large group lectures, school plays, Community Concerts, and vocal and band concerts which took place at Marshfield. ln addition to building sets, the students learned lighting and sound techniques. Drama participants practiced scripts and other readings on their self-made practice-stage in the G.O.Q. room. Director james Kersey involved the Drama students in behind-the- scene events such as handling the set-designs, costumes, publicity and make up for the school plays. Stagecraft and Drama have both contributed to the stu- dents' understanding of drama and stage techniques. :SYH 157424 l Juanita Finch, Debbie Quinn and Donna Spencer rehearse an Indian dance-routine for Peter Pan. 25 Some people go a long way to bein the spotlight! if QA Z 1 a : ZA' 1 wot . Tim Grayson chuckles as a freshman at Orientation Day asks if New Zealand is an island in the Mediterranean. Isa Costa says, Oh, something to carry my Brazil nuts in! as she accepts her Christmas gift from Peggy Eddy, AFS Chairman. AFS STUDENTS Foreign Friends The 1968-69 school year was the first time Marsh- field has hosted two American Field Service stu- dents. The two students, Tim Grayson from New Zealand and Isa Costa from Brazil, contributed much of their time presenting to the school and community information about their country. Tim entertained many people with his guitar and singing throughout the year. His main interest is in the literary field, so he took an active part in Dra- ma and Creative Writing. Tim was the editor of The Seed, a literary production of the Creative Writing classes, and played the part of the character Nel- son in the school play, Mrs. McThyng. Tim spent his year with the james Bedingfield family. I have enjoyed my stay at Marshfield very much and feel that I have learned more about America by actually moving amongst her people than I ever could have by studying from a textbook thousands of miles away in New Zealand. I shall be taking many fond memories home with me and, though it will be hard to leave, I am sure in my mind that I will come back some day. I look forward again to seeing all of you who have made me so welcome in your country. Tim Grayson Palmerston North Boys' High Palmerston North, New Zealand Isa also enjoyed accompanying her singing with her guitar. Physics is lsa's major interest. She took an active part in Speech tournaments and attended the State G.A.A. convention. The Clair jordan family was Isa's host. Sometimes I ask myself if I am living a dream. For me, this is a one-year dream and not just a one- year AFS scholarship. I want all of you to know how glad I am for staying with such friendly people as you, the most friendly Pirates that I have ever known! This school will always be remembered in my life for the friends I made here and the know- ledge I gained. In the future I will have something to look forward to: to come back sometime. . .
