SENATE PRUMUTES ACTIVITIES lnaugurateil in 1927 to govern school affairs, the Student Senate is composed of representatives from the various organizations and homerooms, With Charles Hager as president, Doyle Laird as vice- president, and Louise Iohnston as secretary-treasurer, the Senate had charge of selecting assembly programs, arf ranging for student dances, and conducting plans for Home- coming and the annual student day. As the biggest of their undertakings, the Homecoming rites were successfully handled by the Senate. Queen Marilyn Van Gorp and her attendants, Helen Lanphere and Elsie Mae Marshall, were duly elected by the student body from five nominees chosen by the football squad. Homecoming events included a student talent assembly in the morning, a pep rally the evening before, a football tussle with Oskaloosa which the locals won, 6-O, and a dance at the Memorial Coliseum at which Ray Gray played. Student dances were held at the Y. M. C, A. almost every Friday evening this year, due to the work of the Student Dance committee in cooperation with the Y officials. Composed of thirty-five members, the Senate included seventeen seniors Iulia Brennan, lames Carlson, Iris Cordt, Iack Evans, Thomas Gilson, Charles Hager, Orland Harris, Ernest Iohnson, Louise Iohnston, Betty Kinnaird, Helen Klahn, Doyle Laird, Helen Lanphere, Elsie Mae Marshall, Colleen Melton, Allan Packer, Max Paul, Robert Perisho, Don Shaw, and Marilyn Van Gorp. Iuniors were represented in the governing body by Helen Louise Church, Dorothy Dickinson, lean Gould, Wendell Haupert, Marian Launder, lanice Pedersen, Ianet Rude, Iames Sandvig, Pauline Steen, and Iohn Toborg. Seven sophomores and one freshman completed the personnel. The sophomores were Patricia Berg, Ralph Everist, Carol Hicks, Esther Iohnson, Frances Nickerson, Carolyn Sheets, and loan Whitehill. William Huff was the freshman representative.
