A week of Homecoming Makes one weak Celebration was the theme of the 1986 Homecoming, and that was exactly what loyal fans and students did after the Herd's spec- tacular 63-14 defeat of Davidson Oct. 25. On the morning before kickoff, participants in the banner contest and Homecoming court met in front of the home of President Dale F. Nitzschke. The banners were judged and, the court was in- troduced. C001 Fashion omfort in cotton Comfort in cotton and casual wear proved to be the basic trend when it came to dressing in style on campus for the 1986-87 school year. From the classroom to the dorm, many of the fashions from last year seemed to cling to popularity, in- cluding the uni-segt combination of oxford-cloth shirts, crew-neck sweaters and loafers. Many women still enjoyed the comfort and freedom of the over- sized shirt. This shirt could be worn in a variety of ways from belted with many different ac- cessories to tied in a knot in the 14 Fashion front. It not only could be worn with jeans but also with a variety of pants or even straight skirts. An added trend to this season's fashions was the western look. Women wore both full and straight blue jean skirts with an oversized blue jean blouse highlighted with western accessories. During the warmer parts of the season, students turned to cool and comfortable by wearing jams, long Hawaiian-type flowered shorts with a T-shirt or cotton shirt. Oversized clothes remained popular as the summer turned to fall and eventually to winter. The oversized shaker knit sweater re- mained a hot fad for a cool season again this year. It could be worn facing the front or backwards over a blouse or turtle neck and with either a skirt or trousers. I have found that this seasonis fashions fit my active lifestyle by providing me with comfort plus style throughout the entire day, said Carla Walk, Logan junior. Crew-neck oxford shirts worn with Levis and loafers without socks were just some of the sporty fashions for men on campus. sweaters, Wearing khaki trousers with ab- solutely anything was a new look added to the male fashion world. Gray jeans striped button-downs or even paStel shirts was another fad that highlighted the fashion scene for men. When it comes to dressing in style, I prefer wearing trousers or gray jeans with a striped or plain button-down shirt, said David Klein, Huntington sophomore. Looking classy yet comfortable was what the Marshall University student had in mind when it came to dressing in style. worn with Leaning against the Portrbe, Carl Fodar, Weirton graduate Ituderzt, dilplayt a bulky cotton Jweater.
