Football, Fun Homecoming! Mountain Mardi Gras was the theme for the 1981-82 Marshall Homecoming week. Festivities began with the crowning of Homecoming Queen Kathy Lee Oct. 19, 1981. The week’s events continued with Locomotion Circus, a vaudeville acrobatic team, performing on the plaza of the Student Center. Other entertainment included comedian Jimmy Walker and singer-song-writer Michael Murphy who performed In Smith Music Hall during the week. The annual Homecoming parade was Saturday. The parade included floats, bands, clowns and drill teams from throughout the tri-state. The Homecoming football game was, of course, the highlight of the weekend, despite the Herd’s loss to Virginia Military Institute.
