President Smith attends 1967 pep rally. Now the time has come when the man who has guided Marshall University for twenty-three years will step down. President Smith has submitted his resignation effective July 31. He will have time for himself now, time to be with his family, time to travel. In this world of Heraclitean flux, things change, the old passes to make place for the new. Dr. Smith has served Marshall well for twenty-three years, but even the longest, most fruitful administration must eventually close. This is not the end, however. The continuity of Marshall University will remain, and President Smith's contributions will continue growing as Marshall University grows. While the spirit of Marshall lives, the spirit of Stewart Harold Smith v ill shape it, spreading its presence like a wave on the quiet surface of a pond.
