The Lions, competing against much bigger schools, posted a 10-4 and 1 record for the season. The Lions also became the first team at Mar- shall to ever win a regional tourney. The Lions' season had many highlights including a second place finish in the Danville-Schlarmon Invita- tional, which is considered one ot the most prestigious invitationals in the state. Finishing sixth in the sectional tourney, the lions missed going to the state by only six shots. They placed four people in the top eleven at the regional tourney. Senior Sandy Lamb, led the lions. Sandy also had the high score in the regional tourney and missed his chance for state play by just one shot. A total of eight lions lettered for Coach Paul Robinson. Six of these let- ter earners will be returning next year. With such pro- mise for future years there should be more regional titles added for the lions. A. as .W ..,...,.,,., Y Lions prove their point In what many thought would be a rebuilding season, the Lions posted a very respectable 15-10 record. Under first year coach Kerry Crum, the Lions inserted a new style of run and gun offense that led them all the way to the Little Illini Conference Tourney championship. ln the Shiloh Tournament against Potomac, the Lions became the first Marshall team to score 100 points in a game since the Howie Johnson era. The Lions averaged 61.8 points a game while holding their opponents to only 57.2 points a game. The Lions were known for the incredible physical condition they were in which was evidenced by the number of times they came back to win games in the fourth quarter. Their conditioning allowed them to shoot over 200 more shots than their opponents and score a total of 1,544 points for the season. Nine players earned letters. They were: Jeff Strohm, David Snyder, Jon Thompson, Kevin Winschief, Scott Sherrill, Scott Dawson, Richie Calhoun, Scott Higgin- botham, and Mark Taylor. The Lions will lose seniors Strohm, Snyder, Thompson and Winschief to graduation. These four seniors will be greatly missed but with the five returning lettermen the future looks bright for the MHS basketball program. Sponsored by Shore-Parker Insurance 826-241 1
