'ld' is constructed of steel and cement strong and permanent, but it is designed A school bui ing , to accommodate an ever-changing flovv of students. Year after year buses empty their loads each morning, and people stream in vvaves into the hallways and classrooms. To the rhythm of bells, tides of people vvash in and out ofthe rooms and corridors and finally back to the buses, leaving the building empty. Carl Sandburg in his poem Skyscraper said lt is the men and vvomen, boys and girls so poured in and out all day that give the building a soul of dreams and thoughts and memories. As each individual forms a part of the mass, so each personality contributes to the vvhole of lVlarshall's soul--that abstract thing vve call school spirit. Soon vve, the Class of 1972, vvill be leaving this student body. With us vve vvill take our individual dreams and thoughts and memories, many of which vvere molded in these halls and ll ' a collection of the people and rooms. Remember when we were Freshmen with loads and loads of problems? But those problems seemed to have been lightened with the help of President Mark Carr, Vice-Pres- ident Nancy Davis, Secretary Amy Mallory, and Treasurer Jeff Cargal. Then we moved on to be Sophomores. That was the year we got our class rings and struggled through driver's training. With the exception of Bob Miller as our new Vice- Presldent, we had chosen the same classmates to serve as our class officers. At last we had one-half of our high school years over. We were now Juniors with lots of things to get done. Leading us were President Greg Marrs, Vice-President Bob Miller S ' ' ecretary Amy Mallory, and Treasurer Cindy Weaver. Remember how we worked so hard to make our Prom possible? And don't forget all the other memorable events of the ear th AC y : e -T and SAT -tests, American History classes, the bomb scare the cherr f V bombs and flrecrackers, fire extinguishers, false fire drills, and those disastrous assem- bliesl!! I Now we're Seniors, about to leave you, Marshall High. You have provided us with sad t . . . lmes, happy times, bad times and good times But most of all h ' i , . , you ave given us many memorable times, Marshall H' h ' ' ig , and we would like to take time now to say Thanks! for all you have done. This dramatic presentation was an inspiring piece of work by the actors and was well received by the lVlarshall High School students. The lVlarshall High School Speech Team had a very rewarding season, which was highlighted by a 5th place finish in the District Contest held at lVlattoon. The attendance of four contests offered stiff competition and excellent learning experience for all of the members. Storybook '72 was the theme of the 1972 Variety Show. It was a pleasant ex- perience as the students worked together to produce a show filled with excitement and laughter. The speech season closed on a happy note as the three act comedy, A Token Of Our Esteem, was presented. The play brought down the curtain on a year of varied and successful speech activities. - .rf ,- .. ..
