This year the accent in the English Department has been on communica- tion skills - concentrated listening, effective speaking, and clear concise writing. The classic and contemporary literature of our own country and of the world as presented in our English classes deepened the understanding of individuals and nations. Regular classes have worked with vim and vigor. Remedial help has been given where needed. For the most capable students there has been ad- vanced study of calculus. With a Hshrinkingn world, the im- portance of a foreign language has brought renewed interest in studying a language throughout the entire high school course so that a student may speak fluently and understand other nations.
