Honestly have they led us in the path¬ ways of truth and knowledge. Clearly have they imparted the wisdom obtained from years of experience. Great has been their toil. Education today is recognized as an essential safeguard to our democratic way of life. While we cherish the rights of the individual, we must remember that for every right guaranteed to us there is a corresponding responsibility. In your world of today the underlying foundation upon which you can build success is an undying faith in the moral and spiritual ideals of America. Success both for the individual and for the community in which he lives depends upon an ability to understand oneself, to get along with people, to be economically independent, and to assume civic responsibility. You have been prepared to understand the significance of these guides of living, to accept them and to make them part of your developing personality. In your world of tomorrow, living according to these percepts should bring many, many satisfactions. education for today... 7
