At Homecoming we worked hard on our float, everyone did his .. part. Our heads swelled when we again were awarded the first prize JUNIOR for our float. f BA N- Causey, Seay, Hill, Hunter, Patterson, Clark, Jones lettered in fi QUE1- football. On the harwood were Patterson, Clark and Ezell. On the 3- 6 baseball diamond, Patterson, Jones, Hill, Helton and Causey repre- sented our class. We entertained the seniors in the spring with a Southern banquet ... with the hope that they enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed giving it. When our boys again won the class tournament, each of us mark- ed this as a real victory. Our class was very honored when Jeanette Bowden received the McCullough Trophy, Marie Sisco was awarded the History Medal, Barbara Center received the Language Medal, and Mary Sue Weaver, the Mathematics Medal. ln the Reading and Declamation Contest, Martha Bragg and Bill Shapard were the Medal winners. Our representative to Girls' State was Marie Sisco. Representing us at Boys' State were Buddy Patterson and John Causey. As time went by, we found it September of 1951 and we were the Seniors! We now realized that this was our last year at the most wonderful high school in the world. Trying to make the most of our precious days, we all seem to be having more fun than ever. At our first class meeting of the year, we all put much thought into who we wanted for our officers. President -- Charles Sanders, Vice President -- Buddy Patterson, Secretary -- Jean Gold, Treasurer -- Joyce Shepard, Reporter -- Ophelia Scott, Historian -- Mary Ann Thomas, Sgt. at arms -- Patricia Bills, Jackie Roddy, Cheerleader -- Anita Hay, .loye McPeak. Our sponsors, Miss Fitzpatrick and Mr. Bunch, helped us make this one of the most glorious years ever. We could never repay them. Immediately we began scheming of ways to swell our bank account, for we had need of money to carry out our plans for leaving a worthwhile memorial to the school in addition to the two water coolers we gave, and for financing our Senior trip. All of us turned ourselves into super peddlers at the football games where we had concessions stands. The Senior play, on December 7, under the able direction of Mr. Bunch, was a howling success. The cast included Martha Bragg, Charles Sanders, Mary Sue Weaver, E. D. Helton, Higgins Edwards, Patricia Bills, Ophelia Scott, John Earl Ellington, Mary Ann Thomas and Buddy Webb. The football season -- our last -- was a memorable one. From among our class, Causey, Hill, Patterson, Seay, Hunter, Jones, Wheat,Clark and Roddy were on the squad. Buddy Patterson, the '51 Capt. was an all-star on the Conference team and Waldo Seay, the alternate Capt... , received honorable mentions. Lee Clark can be proud of being the most improved player. One of the highlights of the football season was the homecoming game and parade. Possible because we were acutely aware of the fact that this was our last time to participate in such activities, we spent nights decorating our float. We were rewarded when we, for the fourth and last time, received the award for the best float. To climax the day, Jean Gold was crowned homecoming queen. When basketball season started our class was again well represented. Jeannette Bowden and Lee Clark were elected captains of the girls and boys teams. Buddy Patterson was alternate captain for the boys. With our wagons hitched to a star, we plan to conclude this year, tagging it one of our best ever. Our hearts are set to do our part in the world of tomorrow, trying to repay some of our indebtedness to those who have been so patient in guiding us through these 4 years of preparation. May we show them that it has not all been in vain. Compliments of C.C. Hopper, Esso Distributor
