'P A3 HISTURY OF T HE CLASS f ff F 52 gi 'gtg 0 9 B 5,5 X vo At Marshall County High School in the fall of 1948, one-hundred and four freshmen entered what is now our dear Alma Mater. Looking back, we wonder how we ever survived the first week of A q our rugged beginning. The experiences we had to endure under the Q Q? direction of the awe -- inspiring seniors, which were so humilating 30 Z to us then, have been recorded in our memories as great fun. S A X We could easily recognize our classmates in the first week of A initiation, so we had no trouble getting acquainted with them. After ,J we established ourselves in our new hall of learning , we selected first class officers of our high school days: president, Jimmy Beth- Q shares, vice-president, Buddy Patterson, secretary, Angela Wiggins, A A 5 A treasurer, Mary Sue Weaver, sgt. -- at -- arms, Jeanette Bowden and Waldo Seay, cheerleaders, Barbara Dickerson and Anita Hay. Our patient sponsors, Mr. Seay and Mrs. Shires, guided our fumbling footsteps through this year of adjustment. During football season, Homecoming found the lowly freshman class in the lime light , winning first prize for our float. This money started our band ac- count and we all knew we were starting on our road to success. Sooner than we could all realize, September of 1949 came. We were all glad to be sophomores and to inherit the nickname Silly , which we considered slightly more complimentary than green . The first week of school we selected those who were to head our class: president, Charles Sanders, vice-president, Elma Murdock, sec. 8: treas. Jeanette Bowden, sgt. -- at -- arms, Patricia Bills and Buddy Patterson, report- er, Mary Sue Weaver, cheerleaders, Anita Hay and Mary Ann Thomas. It was our good luck to have Miss Eddins and Coach Tompson as our sponsors. The school year was not all work and no play. Throughout our class work were interspersed gay class parties. In October we had a Harvest Festival. Elma Murdock was elected from our class to reign as queen. For Christmas our class enjoyed another party. Then in the spring we had a hayride, which will never be forgotten by anyone experiencing the battle with the Mud . With great pride and a possible growing arrogance which seems naturally to follow the humility of a freshman, we received various coveted honors during the year. Our float in the Homecoming parade, on which we worked with such zeal, again received first prize. Our class was represented in football by Lee Clark and Buddy Patterson, Mac Hill and John Causey. Jean Gold was crowned as Carnival Queen. The sophomore boys crowned our glory when they became champions in the class tournaments. In the fall of 1950 we could hardly realize we were now juniors. Our amaze- ment was hidden under a swaggering of importance which was meant to imply that we knew the ropes . Class election was one of the highlights of the first week of this school year: president, Charles Sanders, vice-president, Buddy Patterson, secretary, John Earle Ellington, treasurer, Jean Gold, sgt. -- at -- arms, Mac Hill and Marie Sisco, Cheerleader, Anita Hay, Reporter, Martha Bragg. Our capable sponsors were Mrs. Potts and Miss Eddins. Carrying out the tradition of the school, we sold magazines, topping the re- cords of any of the previous classes which have been at M,C.H,S, Good Luck Seniors--The Hi-Hat
