Capt. Ira M I-Iipper was 0 0 , Comman ding Hcer Captain Ira Mark Hipper was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He 2 I 1 graduated from Brooklyn College in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in . jj, Q' Economics and was commissioned and Ensign in January of 1961. 5 yfjxi ' Ss 6' MESA- After attending Combat Information Cen ter School and Radar Intercept ' - OfHcer's training at NAS Glynco, Georgia he reported to VF-121 NAS Miramar where he was awarded his wings in January 1962. His first tour was with VF-96 previously known as VF-142 embarked aboard USS Ranger I C V-61 1. During this tour USS Ranger made its first combat cruise at the onset of the Vietnam War. After departing VF 1142 he reported to Naval Air Systems Command as a Project Officer in the Navy's Fighter Design Office. After completing refresher training with VG-101 he reported to VF-103 and completed two Mediterranean deployments onboard USS Saratoga I C V-601. In 1971 Captain Hipper reported as an instructor to VF-121. Subsequent to his assignment in 1973 he reported VF-21 making two more Western Pacific deployments with the USS Ranger ICV-611. Capt. Hipper's next tour was as Executive OfHcer VF-92 until their disestablishment in June of 1975. Thereupon he reported to Commander Fighter Airborne Early Warning Wing PaciHc Fleet and then to Naval Air Maintenance Training Detachment as the Officer-in-Charge until December 1976. His next assignment was as Executive OfHcer VF-11 embarked on USS Roosevelt I CV-421. In June 1978 he assumed command of VF-111 Sundowners until he was relieved in Subic Bay, R.P. aboard USS Kitty Hawk KCV-631. In January 1980 he reported aboard USS Kitty Ha wk un til his next assignment as Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans for the Commander Sixth Fleet in 1982 where he remained until July 1934 Captain Hipper assumed command of the USS Mars on 25 January 1985 Captain Hipper has logged more than 3600 flight hours which includes 2500 hours in F 4 s and 800 hours in F 14s with nearly 900 carrier landings He has had combat experience in Vietnam He is married to the former Audrey Parnham of Calcutta India who resides in San Diego California with their two children Scott and Todd if tomorrow all the things were gone . . . . . . , , 1 , 4 n f 1 . . 4 e - . , , o ' ' 4 . , k , I I ' ' . mm-emu-4-4.
