CDR Michael F. Cottrell Commander Michael I . Cottrell was born in San Francisco, California. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a BS. Degree and later earned an M.B.A. from Michigan State University. He earned his commission through the Officers Candidate School in 19661 Since then he has seen duty at NSCS Athens, GA, on board the USS HOEL KDDG-132, NAS Willow Grove, USS MARVIN SHIELDS IFF-10662, MSU E. Lansing, and NSA Mare Island. Other assignments include NSC San Diego, NSA Naples, ADN FSO Auburn where he served from March 1981 to June 1984 before assuming the duties of Suppl y Ofhcer on board the Mars. For his distinguished service to the Navy and the country, Commander Cottrell has earned two Meretorious Service Awards, Combat Action Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commenda- tion, National Defense, and Vietnamese Service Ribbon. Commander Cottrell is married to the former Miss Monica Allen of Okemus, Michigan. They have one son, Patrick. EXGCULI Ve O Hcer rf-- ' LCDR James D Harms eutenant Commander James D Harris was born in Birmingham Alabama H graduated from Auburn University and was commissioned through the NROTC Program in August 1970 Lieutenant Commander Harriss first sea duty was on the USS CONSTELLA TION ICVA 641 as CIC Watch Ofhcer where he qualified as an Au' Intercept Controller Officer of the Deck I UXW1 and was designated as Surface Warfare Ofhcer In 1974 he was assigned to USS POINT LOMA IAGDS 21 as First Lieutenant! Deck Department Head In 1976 he was assigned to USS LITTLE ROCK ICG 41115 Navigator When LITTLE ROCK was decommissioned in November 1976 he was ordered to USS NE WMAN K PERRY IDD 8831 for temporary duty awaiting duty as a student at the Surface Warfare Officer School Command Department Head Course in Newport Rhode Island Upon completion of the Department Head Course he was assigned in November 1977 to USS DOWNES IFF 10701 as Oper ations Officer followed in January 1980 with his assignment to USS WABACH IAOR 51 as Operations Officer In October 1981 Lieutenant Commander Harris tions Officer In April 1984 Lieutenant Commander Harris reported to USS MARS IAFS 11 where he presently serves as Executive Officer He was designated quali fied for Surface Command on 7 March 1985 Lieutenant Commander Harris is a recipient of the Navy Commendation Medal Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon Bat tle Efficiency Ribbon Navy Expedition Medal I w!Bronze Star1 National Defense Service Medal Vietnam Service Medal I w!Bronze Stars1 two Humanrtarran Ser vice Medals Sea Servrce Deployment Ribbon I WX3 Bronze Stars1 Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation Iwfpalm1Republ1c of Vietnam Campaign Med al and Expert Pistol Shot Medal Lieutenant Commander Harris is married to the former Jo Anne Jacko of Trum bull Connecticut They have three children Jessie James and Emily The Harris family resides in Mare Island California . I LT Drury H Christian Ships Chaplain, Lieutenant Drury H. Christian IIL was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, on January 13, 1950. He earned an AS. degree from Central Virginia Community College, and later graduated from Lynchburg College with a VA. degree after ma- joring in religion, history, and psychology. Commissioned Sep- tember 14, 1983, he reported on board the MARS in December of 1983 shortly after completing studies at the Navyis Chaplain School in Newport, Rhode Island. Chaplain Christian also studied at the Southeastern Baptist The- ological Seminary, Where he received a Master of Divinity and Master of Religious Education, and at Eastern Shore Community College. Later he served as CPE intern Chaplain at Lynchburg General Hospital. A member of the Military Chaplains Association, Chaplain Christian is a former pastor of the Parlrsley Baptist Church, Parksley, Virginia, a former member of the Northampton-Acco- maclr Memorial Hospital Chaplains Association, and former Chaplain of the Parksley Volunteer Fire Department.
