A.F.S. This organization met every Wednesday at lunch to learn about foreign countries and lifestyles. The foreign students from Australia, Finland and Portugal led discussions and gave slide presentations about their countries. The club went on fieldtrips to restaurants and foreign films throughout the year. For international Day in November, each student prepared a special dish from the cuisine of their chosen country. To fund these projects, the AFS-International Club sold doughnuts every other week. ANNUAL Advised by Mrs. Christensen and headed by Co-editors Allison Keller and Jennifer Levin, the annual staff of thirty members met at M periods this year. The staff worked to upgrade the quality of the yearbook with more pages, the modular style and creative photography. ART ASSOCIATION Advised by Mrs. Bell and led by Jennifer Levin, the Art Association met every Wednesday at lunch. The students organized art shows and field trips to nearby museums, such as the Crafts and Folk Art Museum and the Norton Simon Museum. The weeklong Art Fair held in October displayed student art work in an attempt to generate interest in the visual 'arts. CHAPEL Our chapel committee, headed by Dr. Buster, met each Friday at lunch. Robin Reed, Chairman, and Christina Emanuel, Vice-chairman, conducted chapel meetings and discussed future speakers, movies and plays with other members. The goals of this committee were to make students more aware of religions and viewpoints. 82 CHORUS Under the direction of Miss Hanger, Chorus delighted the Marlborough community throughout the year. In addition to performing at the gym's opening, Chorus entertained at the Christmas and Spring concerts. COMMUNITY SERVICE This year many students participated in the Community Service Program, coordinated by Elana O'Brien. Each girl spent an hour a week tutoring students at neighboring schools such as Hollygrove, Third Street, Blend and Vine Street. This was a unique opportunity that enabled girls to help others. COMPUTER CLUB This year Marlborough added nine computers to the facilities. There are many discs which program games and a variety of educational exercises. Abby Dernberg was the club's president and Mr. Earnhardt was the advisor. In the future, the club would like to organize a contest for all southland clubs. COUNCIL The Student 'Council is responsible for the effective direction of the affairs of the student body. ln addition to ccordinating pep rallies and an all school fund raiser, they organized the opening of the gym celebration, a Sandwich Social, and Career Day. Under the leadership of Kelly Breen and Darcie Dickerson, the Student Council has helped to unify the school and Droduce school spirit. , C.S.F. All students on the Headmaster's List . were members of the Califomia 7 Scholarship Federation. Advised by Mr Stork and Mrs. Jenks, they acted as tutors for other students needing help: they got one exused absence per semester: and went on the annual fiel trip to San Diego Wild Animal Park. , CUM LAUDE l The Cum Laude Society honored the 1 students of the junior and the senior classes. The Marlborough chapter is headed by Mr. Chumbook. The chapta secretary is Miss Carnes, and the students' advisor is Dr. Davis. The girls represent the top twenty percent of their classes. I DANCE COMPANY The Upper and Lower School Dance Dimensions give advanced dancers th opportunity to improve their skills and techniques. Throughout the year the 3 company is very active presenting dance combinations on the front lawr and performing in the Annual Dance l Concert in February. i DRAMA ASSOCIATION The Drama Association was very activ this year underthe leadership of president Shelley Riley. Each Tuesday 1 lunch they met and performed cold ' readings, improvisations, and scenes fr different plays. The group also took fie trips to the theatre to see plays such Fiddler on the Roof.

ENSEMBLE The Marlborough ensemble, consisting of nineteen upper and lower school students, was conducted by Mrs. Debbie Sealove this year. They met every M period, lunch and after school. The group spent a lot of time practicing 'and combining sounds of flutes, violins and pianos. FORENSICS This year's forensics team was coached by Miss Eiline Kingsley. The team, of about fifteen students met twice a week at M2 and M 4. At these times controversial topics such as education in elementary schools were discussed. Team members worked hard to uphold Marlborough's reputation at numerous debates. FRENCH CLUB The French Club met Thursdays at lunch with Mrs. Jenks, their advisor. They frequently attended French films and practiced their French in open conversations. JUNIOR STATE Junior State is a student-run organization designed to acquaint students with politics and government. The members attended various seminars, held practice debates, and visited the state capital. MADRIGALS The Madrigals is a group of the top ten singers at Marlborough. They sang at various school functions, such as International Day and the dedication of the new gym. The girls also participated in a sing-off' with harvard and Westlake. At Christmas they perform at a senior citizen's home. MATH TEAM The Marlborough math team, led by Dr. Davis and Fidelia Kuang, is composed of specially selected upper schoolers. The team met several times a week, and competed in four competitions this year. MIRROR The Mirror's campaign for a new logo was successful and it will appear on all of the Mirror issues. The art magazine will include color reproductions of student artwork. This year was the first year that the art was incorporated into a single theme. The Mirror was edited by Mimi Graham and the staff was advised by Mrs. Bell. SCIENCE CLUB The Science Club is a new addition to the school this year. Under the direction of advisor Mrs. Shreve and president Millicent Lawton, the club met weekly to discuss current scientific topics and recent discoveries. The students also gave reviews of science books and articles as a supplement to their discussions. SERVICE LEAGUE Throughout the year, the service league students, chosen by Mr. Chumbook and Mrs. Jennings, gave tours of the school to prospective students and their parents. They also helped at various school functions such as parent's night, teas, and coffees. U.C.-L.A. HONORS Because of their outstanding grades and S.A.T. scores, some seniors were given the opportunity to take extra courses at U.C.L.A. They were able to explore new areas and have a taste of university life. ULTRA VIOLET This year the Ultra Violet supplied the student body and faculty with extensive information concerning events and controversial issues. Focusing on the achievements and opinions of the students, the editor, Fidelia Kuang, and her staff reached their goal of producing a praise- worthy newspaper.
