Reading, writing, and speaking are everyday needs. But these three essentials are not the only facets of grammatical learning. English extends from the dia- graming of a complex sentence to the read- ing of a Shakespearean drama, from the writing of a research theme to the reciting of The Raven . MTHS students study English each year so that they may com- municate easier in the changing world around them. To actually understand foreign people and their customs, one must have a work- ing knowledge of their language. Three years of French is taught in ascending levels of grammar, mechanics, conversa- tion, and reading. It would be hard to write a research theme or to learn anything if one didn't have books. But one cannot have every book he needs. The library is a store- house of encyclopedias, novels, and books of all descriptions. It is an arsenal of written works. Communication, however, does not end with the spoken and written word but includes a third language. This third lan- guage is music, the universal language . Music has been said to be 'that undefinable link between countries, between cultures, and between peoples. ' Mrs W Comstock Mrs. W, Lillard Study H111 X Librarian . rx .

Miss Moore also suggests ideas for home projects and ways to improve the home. Vocational agriculture trains boys who are interested in farming or related agriculture occupations by making them more proficient in the mechanical skills, technical knowledge, and managerial ability. Demonstrations, farm mechanics, and supervised farming programs provided practical application of the information learned.
