A REASCN TO SAY G00 D BY E lt is hard to say goodbye, unfortunately this is done many times in the Navy. Even a week deployment is a long time to be away, but we are looking towards six and a half months away from loved ones. This is a hard thing for our men to go through but every man knows, in the back of his mind, the reason for this unfortunate separation. The ships ofthe Seventh Fleet are per- forming a very essential task, that of as- sisting the people of Asia in their fight for Freedom. Our job is very important to this cause, for without our service, many shipyards and ship repair facilities would be overloaded with work and, consequently, important work would have to be put off un- til time permitted. With the services of an AR, this work is performed in time so that our combat ships may make it back on the line again in perfect operating condition. The MARKAB is a mobile repair facility with highly-skilled personnel onboard to take care of any repair need that may arise. We have received many expressions of appreciation and well done from the wide variety of ships who have been serviced by our efficient crew. The first hall' of this book will be dedicated to the men who make it possible for the ship to keep her reputation of a CAN DO ship, her crew. Although our reason for being over in WestPac was to work, we all found a little time here and there to have fun. The last part of this book will tell the story about our extracurricular activities. These are the times we will remember best and also the place where our sea stories will take birth.
