Dancing Under the Stars On December 10 from 8-12 p.m., the Mark Keppel Girls League sponsored Wishing on a Star, this year ' s annual Christmas Ball. The four hours at the ball, were only the culmination of weeks of preparation by Girls League — who had the task of selecting the six princesses, counting the votes, decorating the gym, hir- ing Disc Jockeys and then finally, working at the dance Itself. The gym was expertly decorated by Girls League in the theme Wishing on a Star. Keeping in tune with the festive Christmas cheer and Keppel ' s school spirit, the gym was decorated with red and white streamers, stars, elves, a REAL Santa Claus, and an abundance of refreshments, smiles, and good cheer. The ball provided a very wintery and festive atmosphere. Music was provided by Fun Boy Productions, owned and operated by two seniors here at Keppel, Jeff Smith and Hiro Shimizu. They collectively played and mixed a variety of pop, rock, soul, and just plain top forty mu- sic. Participation in Varsity Basketball by two of the princesses cause a delay in the coronation ceremony. For the first time the coronation proceeds were de- layed to 1 1:00 p.m. At that magical moment, CONNIE VASQUEZ was crowned the nineteen hundred and eighty three Christmas Ball queen. Along with Queen Vasquez were senior princesses TERRI YOSHIZUMI and VIRGINIA SANCHEZ; junior princess, NORA MATSUMOTO; sophomore pnncess, LUZ-MARIA QUINTANA; and freshman princess. KATHY SAD- ZEWICZ. After the crowning, the song from which the theme was named was played as the princesses and their escorts shared a special dance and a very spe- cial moment. The expected turnout was well han- dled by Girls ' League advisors Susan Sanchez and Ginger Stonebreaker and by President Donna Menard. All three played major roles in the smooth run- ning of the 1983 Christmas Ball, a night that will be remembered when ■WISHING ON A STAR.
