Cc 5 ns. . 1 ,js C THE HIGH SCHOOL INTRAMURAL BASKETBALL LEAGUE was organized K ' again this year by Coach Thomas and placed under the management of Q V. V. Smith. The purpose of the league was to give physical training and Q athletic sportsmanship to boys not on the varsity with the possibility of some Q of them becoming Giants of the future. if , , af i . . . . . . 3TFl 5. Q Any team organized by and composed of high school students was eligible ffl Q for entrance to the league. Thirteen teams were organized and were placed in- Q to leagues and games scheduled between the members of each by Coach Thomas. . 4 xl fi . . . . . . 'ell iff S The teams in the first league according to their final standing were the ul i' Artesians, first: Bears and the Ramblers tied for second: Doo-Dads, Meteors 3 Q and Bull Dogs. ig ' if l Q The Wampus Cats led the second league, The standing of the remain- Q ing six teams were Black Cats, second: Trig Sharx, Miller Specials, Blue Devils, 13 Q Dwarfs and the Forget-Me-Nots. ii: .Q f' S ln the final game for League Championship the Artesians outshot the -' Wampus Cats 44-20. The Artesian Team was composed of Michaels. Barnes, E R Vice, Laughlin, Bibler, Cousins and Moore. As League Champions they were 5 Q presented with medals by the school. I Q Q - 5 . 5-ri

A 1 ,jj Track ld COACH PRIBBLES purple and gold thinlyclads comprising the 1928 track ea' squad of Marion High School made their first appearance April 4th at a triangular meet at Elwood between that city. Tipton and the representatives of pl M.H.S. Throughout the meet Marion's ever-increasing number of points kept her in the lead by a good margin and the meet ended Marion, 57: Elwood, 28: Tipton. 14, Both Marion relay teams won their respective events. '11 Next came a dual meet on Memorial Eield with Central of Fort Wayne. it ln the face- of a hard-driving West wind. the Giants of the Cinder Track again scored a walkaway. The totals showed Marion 61 to Central's 20. Due to the wind the high hurdles, pole vault. and both relays were omitted. After a postponement from the previous Saturday. the County Track Meet was held Tuesday. April 24th. at Memorial Eield. Marion won the meet 51 173 over Eairmounts total of 20 273. The other schools participating and their respective points were: Swayzee, 17 and Jonesboro. 10. Both M.H.S. 7' relay teams became County Champions. E+ In the century dash Marion's entrants were Stickann and Bollet and in the 220 these two and Stambaugh. Duke competed in the 440 and Aldrich 3,14 represented Marion in both the mile and the half mile. ln the high and low hurdles lsselhardt and Carl placed respectively. ln the Held events the purple and gold Ciiants who made points were: Broad jump. Stickann and D. ia? Knipple: high jump, Eoland and D. Knipple: and in the shot put, H. Knipple and Stickann. Price showed up well. but was defeated in the pole vault. Stick- fx ann broke the County records in both the 100 and 220 dashes and K, Carl lowered the time on the low hurdles. Kilgore of Swayzee broke the County rp, record on the pole vault. rtfi An invitational meet was held at Kokomo with the Red and Blue Kats y and other teams. The District Meet was held in Memorial Field. May 12th. gl Kokomo won the meet with 35 BS points and Marion placed fourth with 14, Technical of lndianapolis totaled 27 points for second place and Anderf in son was third with 18 173 points. There were about sixteen other schools represented. Marion's half mile relay composed of Bollet. Carl. Stambaugh' I and Stickann placed first over Technical and Elwood. ln the century dash Q Stickann tied with Kutchback for second place, Oden of Kokomo won the event 'Q and tied the state record with his time of ten seconds even. H. Knipple placed second in the shot put and K. Carl finished third in the low hurdles.
