Susan entered a nation-wide scholarship contest as the first step to becoming Miss America. She heard about the con- test during the spring of« her junior year when it was in the student bulletin. I needed a college schol- arship and have talent so P thought, ' What tru ' heck! ' The pageant was not ' judged on beauty, but or •swimsuit, evening gown, and talent competitions. Fifty percent of the over- ' all scoring was deter- ' mined by talent. It ' s ,portant that it ' s judged on talent, not beauty. Beauty is only skin deep but talent comes from in- side. When you perform, you show people who you are; your emotion comes through because you like what you ' re do ing. Susan did not win or be come a runner up that ' time, but planned on try ung again. From the newest sopho- more to the most exper- ienced administrator, ev- eryone had an impact on the school. There were many relationships: be- tween students, faculty, administrators, secretar- ies, aides, custodians, bus drivers and other mem- bers of the school district and also an intermingling of the above. They were all important. However, it was really the personal- ities of the people that made high school special. Having insecurities about keeping absolute confi- dences in different peo- ple made the year excit- ing and unigue. The fact that individuals are incre- dibily different had a di- rect effect on the life of others as well as on them- selves.
