Each year, Marina sponsers a computer chess championship competition in which all of the schools in the district compete. Chess players challenge and are challenged by computers. Anyone could become a member of this club who was interested in lighting or wanted to become more familar with various lighting techniques, These stu- dents would learn how to use lights to en- hance any school event while having a great time with friends. The Lighting Club lit up Marina's dances, band concerts, choir concerts, Mariner performances, the- ater presentations, banquets, and the Gold- en Shields Award show, as well. Without the hard work and dedication of the '84-'85 Lighting Club, many of Marina's activities certainly would have not been as success- ful. Many students at Marina wondered what the l.O.C accomplished during the school year. l.O.C. stands for the lnterorganiza- tional Council, and it plays a vital role in the success of each of Marina's clubs. Each club elected an l.O.C represenitive at the beginning of the school year. The cho- sen students met with the Commissioner of Orgnaizations, Nicole Spanovich, ap- proximately every two weeks. lt was the clubs' l.O.C represenitives that were re- sponsible to report to the Commissioner of Organizations about their clubs' activities and future plans. Then, if the Commission- er of Organizations wanted to speak to each club, she called the represenitives to a meeting, and afterwards the l.O.C mem- bers reported back to their club's President with information. This communication be- tween the Commissioner of Organizations and each club on Marina's campus was important. The l.O.C united the various clubs and kept each club's activities fun and orderly. These students are primarily intrested in a medically related career. The club enabled these students to enhance their knowledge of what their choice of medical career of- fered to them. The club was divided into different groups to fit the particular needs of each specific student according to their choice of medical or medi- cally related career. The divided groups took field trips: rehabilatation centers, clinics, blood processing labs and dentists offices are just a few of the places visited by the students. The Medical Explorers Club served as a small, yet important, stepping stone into the world of physiology and medicine for these stu- dents and students to come in the future. Clubs 91
