Speech The Speech Club or Marina's charter of the National Foren- sic League, promotes the important and refinement of stu- dent's verbal skills. The team is made up of all types of students, from seniors to freshmen. The only qualification needed to become a mumber of the Speech Team is the willingness to work hard. Every few weeks, Marina competes in speech tournaments, as a member of the Orange County Speech League. Being the strongest, this year, in the county, Marina won many sweepstakes awards at these tournaments, in which usually about 25 schools competed. The most impor- tant speech tournament held in Orange County this year, State Qualifications, was held at Marina and the team was very successful, sending many speakers to the State tournament. 1 U w , H msg vt S 5 elk 'ze ........... 84 Clubs Debbie practices in front of team members. 1 , , - t xt ws in S? ? , X tX 6 .ais- Speech Team showing us their awards and trophies. Given the case of Cindy Ballard vs. the People, the entire team fought for truth and justice. Was Cindy driving? Was Rolfe? Can a vehicle be properly operated if the driver is sitting in the center of the front seat? These questions are still unanswered today. Preparations ofr the competitions were made both during lunch and during the even- ing. Roy Comer and Mrs. Tourino, attornies, provided much help and counseling to both the lnter-district and Orange County Teams. Trials took place at the Westminister courts for the Inter-district team and at the Santa Ana courts for the Orange County team. Ev- eryone participated, attornies and witnesses alike, and had a wonderful learning exper- ience and a great time. ' C . - f, -K he X Q 1 t --eggs . ff K 5 . , .. - . s Q t ..
