K , The Quill and Scroll club is the Internation- al Honor Society for the High School Journal- ists. lts purpose is mainly, encouraging and rewarding individual achievement in joura- lism and allied fields. The Quill and Scroll club of 1984-85 built student incentive and quality and provided deserved recognition and reward. They proved themselves to be very dedicated to their journalistic responsiblities. The perse- verance with which they worked made it pos- sible for our students to be proud to be read- ing the school newspaper or browsing through the yearbook. Working hard was a full time job and helping each other when there was extra time was never an uncom- mon sight to be seen. Under the guidance of advisor, Mrs. Ryan, the club created the intriguing stories and controversial subjects seen in our Volsunga or the artisticly graphic photography we are see- ing in this years Ragnarijc. When at last the scolastic and inner goals have been accomplished at the end of the year, each member was recognized for their contribution of the time, effort and thought- fulness that they put into their work. This exciting club is not only for those students enrolled in a German class. Ger- man club is for anyone who is interested in understanding the German culture. lt edu- cates its members about German holidays, attitudes, and customs. German club not only teaches students about Germany, but it also is a great way to meet new friends with similar interests. To become a mem- ber of Marina's German club, one had to pay 52.00 as dues. This basic fee paid for the various club expenses. Some of these activities included participation in an Octo- berfest, a Christmas party, and a pot-luck. German club also actively participated in Marina's International Day. Runes fs 1' 25 c if ji 'R Nmx K fi Jay Lechtman, Editor of Literature, discusses a student entry. Have you ever wondered what exactly the Runes club devotes its countless hours to? Well this year, Marina's Runes club was responsible for the outstanding publi- cation of the annual Runes magazine. This is a publication written by students, orga- nized by students, and published by stu- dents, as well. lt is a creative arts magazine filled with short stories, poems, artwork, pictures, and any other creative material a student wished to submit. Meeting sometimes twice a week during lunch, the Runes club would spend time sorting through and reading the various student entries. Jay Letchtman, Editor of Literature, and Chris Lake, Editor of Artwork, would lead the pack through the many excellent entries. Finally, the diffi- cult decision of which articles and artwork to publish was made. Traditionally, the Runes magazine is made available to the student body on the day of the Golden Shields presentation, and the tradition was continued again this year. Runes was an excellent opportunity for students to be published who like to draw, write, or take pictures. All members, including advisor Mr. Pap, actively participated in this maga- zines success.
