Bank Of America Award Winners This year sixteen of Marina's top stu- dents were selected as the Bank of Amer- ica Achievement Award Winners. The pro- cess of selection began with the faculty choosing the students which they felt re- presented the top of their field of study in each of the thirteen catagories. Each of these students then received a certificate of achievement from Bank Of America in honor of their accomplishemnts. The facul- ty then chose its top three students in the general fields of study which are Applied S Fine Arts, Liberal Arts, and Science 8 Mathematics. The Bank of America Awards are pre- sented each year to the top students of the Senior Class who meet the eligibility re- quirements. These requirements are that have nominated student must have main- tained an overall GPA of at least 3.00 and spent a minimum of at least 30 semester hours of study in their field. Although the academic requirements are a major consid- eration in the selection of nominees, com- munity services and other extracurricular activities are carefully weighed. So the re- cipients of these awards are students who excel both academically and as members of their community which is why we are so proud to recognize them for their accom- plishments. - - Boys' And Girls' State Reps The American Legion's 1984 State Session, of over 550 qualified girls allowed me to experience real team work for the very first time. It was a whirlwind week spent at Sacramento State Llni- versity, learning, creating, and grasping the foun- dations of our democratic system. Distinguished speakers such as Senator William Campbell and Governor George Deukmejian were a few of the enriching highlights. I sincerely hope that the Seal Beach Leisure World Post of the American Legion will continue to provide this outstanding opportunity for the youth of California, which in turn encourages us to reach for the stars. I must again thank the Auxiliary Post for allowing Girls State to be one of my most treasured memories. Deborah S. Hirsch Late last year I was chosen by the American Legion Post 327 of Seal Beach Leisure World to be Marina's delegate at Boys State. At the Boy's State Session I gained a great understanding for the American Political System. Approximately 900 boys took part in this week-long political science course, and we all learned by re-enacting the California State Government. I would sin- cerely like to thank everyone who made Boys State possible, it was an experience I'II never forget. Christopher K. Lake 58 Boy s And G1rl's State Reps.
