E Gn The Way Up l Girls Swimmlng The Marina Girls Swimming team was vastly improved this year. With the addi- tion of an exceptionally strong freshman group, they are favored to win the CIF relays this year. The freshman group is led by Kristie Boehm, Kari Lupton, Kathi Stuppy, Kelly Saldana, and Kathleen Endo. Also involved with the Frosh-Soph Swimming team were Karen Blair, Heidi Cuckler, Jeanine Bryan, Jodi Henderson, and Keke Saldana. The varsity team this year has many of the frosh-soph swimmers along with sen- iors Laura Cox, the captain of the team, Kirsten Challman, Laura Danlasky, Sheila Pedersen, and Nicole Spanovich. Slashes With Spirit Surf Team This year's surf team, under the excel- lent coaching of Carl Hayward, turned out some very experienced talent. Their sea- son wasn't what they had hoped for, but they never gave up or became discour- aged. Surfers Ryan Keenan, Mike Harris, Colin Gallagher, Jason Hennessy, and Bri- an Lovely were the leaders of the team. These surfers worked very hard to repre- sent Marina, and were very successful in doing so. A typical competition day for these surf- ers would be to be at the beach by 6:30 in the morning only to go out into the freezing cold water, and then outmaneuver their competition. These dedicated young ath- letes often aren't given the credit they de- serve, and are underestimated by most.
