Pinning The Opponent Wrestling This year's Varsity Wrestling Team showed some outstanding talent, coached by Doug Belanger, Mark Ruiz, and Dave Abbott. These coaches spent long, strenu- ous hours working with the team. All this practice proved to be a very important ,.,, factor in the team's success. An important part of the team's preparation before they wrestle is self-confidence. This confidence comes from the team, as well as the coaches. When they get out on the mat, they're ready to do their best, and nothing less. There were many good wrestlers this year. Some were Eddie Ruiz, Troy Cloud, Rick Hunt, Mark Guedea, Sean Magula, Darren Bryant, Bobby Cole, and Richard Garcia. Troy Cloud took third in his weight class for Sunset League, and went to ClF for his second year in a row. The Frosh- Soph team did very well, too. An outstand- ing frosh wrestler was Bryson Benninger. Overall, there are many very good young wrestlers who have a lot of potential, and who will be awesome in years to Come, Varsity Team Row l tl-rj: Jeff Toler, Bobby Cole, Bryson Benninger, Eddie Ruiz. Xxnn Swings Into Action 170 Field Field Hockey This year, Marina's Field Hockey Team was made up of a fascinating blend of girls. With fifteen new players on the team, the Vikings contained an exciting mixture of youth, experience, speed, and agility, but it took the experience and outstanding coaching of Shelly Holman to bring this talented group together. Outstanding ef- forts were put forth this year by senior Chris Gray, senior Tara Robbins, and new- comer Andrea Willer. These and many oth- er fine performances were exhibited throughout the season. All of the girls fine tuned their skills during hours of practice. The young team displayed its talents in a game against the M.H.S. Field Hockey alumni. The girls battled to a hard fought O- O tie. And so went the season for the Vi- kings. Many closely contested struggles with a tough league. When the shouts had died down, and the dust had settled, the young team had finished in fourth place. - he P51 -- -iw my NS if f it Hockey Row iz Ruth Syverstrud, Paulita Jacobs, Andrea Willer, Marissa Llrada, Candice Sato, Kelly Saldana, Janice Hollingsworth, Cindy Siemers.
