A Step Above The Rest Girls Gymnastics The Varsity Girls Gymnastics team was very strong this year because of its talent- ed members. They expect to battle their close opponent, Fountain Valley, for sec- ond place in the League. Coach Dave But- ler kept the team spirit and confidence high among the members of the team and made sure that they performed with the highest of their abilities. Some of the out- standing performers in the Varsity team were Jennifer Daza, Kim Gleason, Shawn Lamb, Sarah Pirch, and Kristen Burnstein. Coach Dave Butler also led the Junior Varsity team through the season. Their main goal is to place several girls in the league finals. The team's outstanding per- formers, Randi Zamora, Lisa Sullivan, and Michelle Barton, along with all of the junior varsity team members, plan to make next year's team the best that it can be. E Shoot For The Victory X1 varsity Basketball Led by coach Steve Popovitch, the Mari- na Varsity team completed the season with a 11-14 record. Bill Craft was the only re- turning player from last year's team. He was joined by seniors Greg Knuff and John Pi while Mark Georgeson and Steve Guild filled out the starting five. 6'5 Steve Guild finished the year with a 11.5 ppg scoring average while collecting 7.7 rebounds a game. He was named 2nd team All-Sunset League. 6'8 Mark Georgeson was the third leading scorer with a 8.7 average and Greg Knuff was second with a 9.4 average. Playmaker Bill Craft averaged 3.5 assists per game while outside shooting was pro- vided by William Quinn and John Pi. This year's team provided many fine de-' fensive efforts while allowing only 51 points per game, only 3 points away from the school record, 48, established in 1972. ss William Quinn examines the shot just before he goes for the basket. 160 Varsity Basketball 1 .
