Kicks To Victor J FroshfSoph Soccg J l This year's froshfsoph team was an ex- i cellent group of players. With the great coaching of Dennis Bruynzeel, the team placed second in the Sunset League. Pre- Season was a time for the team to get in the swing of things, preparing themselves for league. They got off to a slow start, but by the time league started, they were ready for action. Led by the scoring of Glen Pills- bury, Rob Carabba and Mark Hyatt, this team had one of the best scoring front lines in Sunset League, outscoring their oppo- nents in league 20 goals to ll goals. Halfbacks Gary Lundy and Don Bush p were both solid players. Colin Connors, , Tony Cianfaglione and Jason Mifflin were l awesome midfielders. The team's defense was so strong, that they let only two losses go by in ten league games. Leading the defense was Kevin Stern with Dwayne Montayne, Scott Fahrner and Dave Calvert right behind him. The whole effort was brought together by Dave Buehring who is probably the league's best goalkeeper. Overall, the froshfsoph team did exceed- ingly well, and will add a lot to future teams. L Talented Young Team I Girls' Soccer Marina's girls soccer team put forth a great effort this year. The girls, under the charge of Coach Vicki West, had high hopes after a promising pre-season includ- ing victories over some tough competitors. The Viking girls continually worked at improving their skills during rigorous prac- tices in preparation for the regular season. The Varsity team, with such talented play- ers as forward Connie Knapp, goal keeper Tracy Ferguson, and forward Julie Bridg- man, played extremely well. Unfortunate- ly, the talent displayed by the Vikings was not reflected in the scores. Both the Varsi- ty team and the Junior Varsity team, head- ed by Coach Nellie Spring, finished the year with a record of 1-8-1. Each of the girls on both Varsity and J.V. played to the best of their abilities. The valuable experience gained this year will surely pay off next year. .- Varsity member Teresa Germain kicks the ball with accuracy and precision while other team members practice. li s,.
