x get! Ace! Kill! Girl's Volleyball This year's girls Varsity volleyball team, under the superb coaching of Dennis Creighton proved itself to be the best year yet for everybody. The Vikes started their winning season by practicing at the end of last year and during last summer. Aerobics was a very important part of these prac- tices, because it kept them physically fit and improved their agility and coordina' tion. They were off to a great start! Against their Sunset League opponents, the team did extremely well, only losing to the top rated Edison and the very powerful Fountain Valley. Overall, our team had more aces and more kills than last year, and placed a very respectable second in Sunset League play, only second to Edi- son. A great motivating force this year was a great crowd turnout. More spectators were present this year to cheer their team on to victory! Outstanding players included Tracy Fer- guson and Margo Kuester who both were selected to the first CIF team, while Kim Rochow was selected to the second CIF team. Other outstanding players were, Ti- fany Tsuneyoshi, Renee Robataille, Temre Kuester, and Leah Branch. ln CIF competition, the mighty Vikes made it to the second round, only losing to Notre Dame. This year's overall season, even with the intense competition, turned out to be a very successful one. Next year's team should also be a great one, because there will be many returning play- ers. EXTeam Spirit ln The Air T 148 Boys Boys Volleyball Under the coaching of Tim Reed, the Varsity Volleyball team reached their po- tential, and they played better than was expected by others in the early season. Randy Smith, Rob Rosenblatt, Bill Craft, and John Lennertz were some of the play- ers that kept the team going with spirit. The young Junior Varsity team, led by Andy Read, had a lot of talent and was a contendor for the league title. Their stron- gest challengers, Fountain Valley and Edi- son, may have been tough, but the team fought back just as strong and better. Some of the most outstanding players were Alan Knipe, Mike Meyers, and Ben Le Francois. The Frosh-Soph team may be the best team of their kind in the county. Led by coach Bob Fick, the team showed tre- mendous potential, WWJ' W Varsity team row l: Toshio Oe, Rob Rosenblatt, Mike Martin, John Wolfe, Don Huff.
