........f This year, incoming freshmen put out great effort throughout the entire season. They displayed great prospect with out- standing talent and absolutely brilliant coaching. The mastermind behind all of those brilliant plays was Head Coach Paul Renfrow. He was assisted by the capable coaching of Assistant Coach Rich Flores, Assistant Coach Brian Beall, and Assistant Coach Steve McJilton. The Freshman foot- ball team displayed its awesome talent when it was confronted with such formida- ble foes as Edison, Esperanza, Servite, Foothill, Fountain Valley, La Quinta, West- minster, and Millikan. X Viking Power Sophomore Football This year's i984 Marina sophomore football team put forth great effort and pride into their game. The combined coaching of Dick Degen and assistant coaches Dennis Masuda and Kent Tucker in addition to the team's great talent, Mari- na proved to be a formidable force against all of its opponents which included such noted powerhouses as Edison, Servite, Esperanza, Fountain Valley, and Foothill. The team was led by outstanding play from running back Sean Magula, quarter- back Todd Destatte, defensive end Troy Pulzin, and linebacker Scott McClinchy. Yeah, Marina! X Race To The Finish Boys And Girls Cross-Country Marina's boys cross-country team fin- ished its season after the hard work of many of the members of the team. Var- sity members Paul Kessey, Jim May- nard, Brian Jewett, Willy Waldrop, Steve Saatjian, Sean Mc lntire and Jim Kroger lead the team with outstanding effort at the races and the invitationals. The Varsity team showed off its strength at the Fountain Valleyelnvita- tional where they placed ahead of most of the opposing teams. Holding up a strong Junior Varsity team were Scott Lane, Mike Moore, Young Kim, Steve Grabowski, Charlie Yu, Bob Borra, Marcus Sheldrake, Steve Anderson and David Kawamura. Jim Maynard came out as most valuable runner while Willie Waldrop was chosen team captain, Llnder the coaching of Jerry Alcorn, the boys cross-country team worked hard and showed a lot of spirit in their season.
