l3O Varsi Let's Go Big Blue' Varsity Football This year's Varsity Football team faced one of it's toughest and most competetive pre-season schedules. However, under the superb direction of Coach Dave Thomp- son, the awesome Vikes stomped Servite into the ground, and this was just the start! After a grueling game against Foothill, the mighty Vikes went on to defeat the very powerful La Quinta High School. This drove them into another great victory against Millikan. This finished out their season with a bang, preparing them for an exciting season against their Sunset League competitors. The final record was 3-2. The Vike's great pre-season was made possible by such outstanding players as: Shawn Mas- sey, Fred Jordan, Steve Blokdyk, Adam Antoyan, Chip Rish, and Pat Penner. These pre-season wins were a tremendous help to the vitality of the regular season, getting everyone prepared mentally as well as physically. The spectators were also charged up, and contributed tremendously to the overall positive atmosphere. Good job Vikes! Bill Craft makes a quick Baron attack. Q o 0 EX Let s Go Vikings! Varsity Football This year's Varsity Football team had a great league season with three wins and two losses. The Vikes started off the sea- son by conquering Huntington in their own territory. They lost to the top ranked Foun- tain Valley, but the determined Vikes just kept pushing forward, and went on to beat both Ocean View and Westminster. They went on to play Edison, they gave it their all, but still were defeated. However, CIF was still there! Outstanding players wereg Shawn Mas- sey, Steve Blokdyk, Fred Jordan, Chip Rish, Adam Antoyan, Dave Fletcher, Matt Mc Dowell, Brent Hyska, John Porter, and Pat Penner. The team showed great drive, stamina, and power. With the great crowds, the team was able to maintain their confidence even with losing. Shawn Massey and Fred .Jordan were both considered to be two of the best play- ers around. Defensively, however, Adam Antoyan, Dave Fletcher, Matt Mc Dowell, Brent Hyska, and John Porter were among some of the best. By defeating most of their Sunset Shawn Massey runs from his opponent. Massey runs away with the ball to score another touchdown. l32 Varsity Football League opponents, the Vikes were on their way to CIF. By first playing Loyola, the team was very prepared for what lay ahead. They defeated Loyola and went on to play Servite for the second time. The Vikes victory over them in pre-season was the only defeat Servite had for their whole season. They did it once again, becoming the only team to beat Servite not only once, but twice. From this victory, the Vikes went on to play Fontana. This resulted in defeat. Over- all, they had a great year. Dave Fletcher moves in to recover the ball. Piccione and Yoshiyama rush to tackle.
