Band Marches Toward Success Marching with percision, the i984-'85 Marina Band is a unit to take great pride in. ln Septem- ber, before the school year began, each band member perfected his or her marching tech- niques in a rigorous two week workshop. Even- ing and Saturday practices were also required for band members. Such practicing did not end when the school year began. Throughout the semester the band practiced both 6th and 7th period, everyday. This hardwork was evident when one watched the band's remarkable half- time show during football season. Led by direc- tor Mr. John Mason, Marina Band took its field show to various competitions against other high school bands. At the Orange Competition in October. Marina Band took a well-deserved ist place for its halftime show, along with a 3rd place for its superior drum line, This winning performance entitled Music On The Move, consists of the songs, Fiero . Perfidia , El lncindio , Birth Of The Blues , and Softly As l Leave You . ln addition to these fine tunes were the excellent solos by Jason Attias and Band Director: Mr. John Mason Teag Reaves. Of course the band could not succeed without the leadership of Drum Major, Barbara Calister, and Assistant Drum Major, Jon Kniss. When the band's award-winning field season was completed, the marching band di- vided into two smaller bands entitled Symphon- ic and Concert Band. Both groups learned new songs, performed them, and improved their mu- sic ahility while enjoying themselves. Marina Band certainly proved to be one of excellence throughout the '84-'85 school year. Congratula- tions Marina Band for such outstanding awards and accomplishments. Mariners A Mariners have gained a new look this year with the guidance of Mr. Dave Pitt and Mrs. Wolfe. With the hard work and dedication of the group they were able to paint the town in tux- edos and fancy dresses. Always in tune with what's going on, the Mariners seemed to come shining through in whatever they did. Whether it was performing regularly on Channel 56 for their Christmas pro- grams or putting on a show at Disneyland. They also sang and choreographed their own dances for clubs, organizations, civic groups and hospi- tals of the area. We should all agree that with the i984-85 Mariners' new look, that we shall be hearing from them more in the future. 2 Mariners: Missy Day, David Sutton, Sara George C' 4 34, f.?g,5'f ,Ji- Mariners: Karen Stark, Garet Binckes, Peggy Her- lebaus Mr. Pitt tDirectorj and Mrs. Wolfe CAccom- panistl. re Right Cn Key!!
