u American Field Service Craig Chaffin AFS, or American Field Service, has chosen two students every year from Marina to serve as Finalists in the national competition for placement abroad. If chosen, these students live and study in a different country, learning the customs and nationalistic differences. Students may opt to go for one year, or may go on the summer program. In essence, the primary goal for AFS is better understanding among nations of the world, and striving for peace. Last year both finalists at Marina were se- lected to go abroad. Craig Chaffin is still studying in Germany on the year program. l-Ie lives with a professor of music and his family. Trish Waters came back in September after having spent the summer in Turkey. arsity Speakers fu pq ui :x ,3- Assembled here is the nucleus of the Marina Speech Squad, one of Orange County's finest. Their innovative money-making projects have been unusually successful. Likewise, the many speaking programs they have organized foutside of their rigorous tournament schedule, to be presented to the community have been extremely well received and highly publicized.
