After much hard work the present Passfliail policy was approved, and Was implemented in September. This year the committee Worked mainly in the development of departmental goals and objectives As each department set up its goals the committee looked them over and provided constructive criticism. The purpose of this committee is to look into present classes and revise the curriculum as it is needed. Since the students are the ones who must sit in the classes, they are the people Who know what needs improvement. They must speak outg we need student input. said Kathie Thomas the committee's chairman. Fo ru m The Forum Commission, as an integral part of the stu- dent government of Marina is responsible for bringing before the students for discussion campus issues of importance. Members of this year's Forum Commission Were, rep- resenting the administration, our principal, Mr. Weaverg from the faculty, Mr. Bakery Viking Council's representa- tive, Pat Evansg C.S. R. 's rep- resentative, Ed Clearyg and our Student at Large, Ellen Sung. Working in conjunction with the other student governmental agencies, throughout the year, the Commission Worked hard to bring before the students topics of interest. Topics considered for discussion were Pass!Fail P E., Open Campus, Student Rights, and the A. S. B. con- stitutional amendments. 5 if 1

E VerUcalCounseHng Over the past years, the Guidance Department of Marina High School has assigned students to a particular counselor, and that counselor has followed the student through each grade level to gradua- tion. Beginning this year, however, a different method of student assignment was initiated in an ef- fort to facilitate comprehensive counseling, and to better meet the needs of the student. First each counselor was assigned a specific group of pupils to counsel. This was based on the first letter ofthe student's last name. One counselor, for example was assigned to all pupils Whose last names began with the letters A through BUO. The eight counselors involved then do the educational, vocational, and personal counseling with students of all grade levels Within their specific alphabetical group. VVork Expedence Career investigation is a vo- cational guidance program where- in interested students spend one semester on a variety of training stations. This is a school-credit, no-pay program, before, after, or during the school day limited to 20 credits. Vocational Work Experience Education has as its purpose an extension of vocational learning opportunities for students through part-time employment in an oc- cupation for which their instruc- tion in school is preparing them. All of the part-time employment may occur during or after school l ,f hours. Participation in this pro- I gram is limited to a maximum of 40 credits.

Opportunity School Under the direction of Mr. Carnahan, the coordinator, Mr. Kennedy and Mrs. Anger helped the pupils in opportunity school to develop an appropriate self-image, understand the demands and expectations of society, develop appropriate personal goals, and improve their basic skills. l Q l Portable Classes 5 Do you remember when We used Q to have grass on the West side of 2 campus behind the math classes?
